Position: International Student Advisor
Location: Idaho State University
Job Description:
The International Student Advisor at Idaho State University serves as an immigration advisor, specifically for international students, faculty, and scholars. They also act as a Designated School Official (DSO). The main responsibilities include completing immigration paperwork, issuing and monitoring immigration documents and applications, updating student and scholar records in the federal SEVIS system, and ensuring compliance with SEVIS reporting requirements and other federal regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
– Advise and assist international students and scholars on F-1 and J-1 immigration requirements
– Prepare federal documents for work authorization and visa related requests
– Educate students and scholars on U.S. immigration laws and regulations
– Process I-20 and DS-2019 applications and ensure compliance with Department of Homeland Security requirements
– Assist students and scholars in maintaining enrollment status and filing applications with DHS
– Maintain immigration information in student database (ISSM)
– Coordinate workshops, cultural events, and services for new students and scholars
– Track enrollment numbers and international student data each semester
– Serve as a Designated School Official (DSO) and Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO)
– Represent the office in meetings and collaborate with other teams
– Advise international student organizations
Minimum Qualifications:
– Bachelor’s degree and at least 1 year working in international immigration advising in an academic setting
– Ability to serve as a Designated School Official (DSO)
– Knowledge of F-1 and J-1 federal regulations
– Attention to detail and accuracy
– Ability to analyze situations and make informed decisions
– Strong leadership and conflict resolution skills
Preferred Qualifications:
– Master’s degree and at least 3 years working in international immigration advising in an academic setting
– Experience as a Designated School Official (DSO)
– Familiarity with Ellucian’s Banner, Recruit CRM, and ISSM databases
– Expertise in using the federal SEVIS database
Additional Information:

The salary ranges from $46,050 to $50,000 per year based on education and experience.
