**Job Description: International Student Advisor (ISA)**
Join the Cranwell International Center (CIC) team in Blacksburg, VA, as an International Student Advisor (ISA) in our mission to support and amplify international student contributions within the Virginia Tech community. This role is critical in ensuring compliance with federal regulations concerning international student enrollment.
**Key Responsibilities:**
– Manage a caseload of immigration requests and advise international students.
– Interpret and apply complex federal regulations and university academic policies.
– Guide students on immigration, employment, taxes, and personal and financial matters.
– Serve as a Designated School Official (DSO) to process and sign F-1 student immigration documents.
– Maintain accurate immigration status records.
– Counsel students facing complex personal situations, ensuring legal status and progression toward graduation.
– Anticipate and address issues impacting student satisfaction.
**Role Essentials:**
1. **Department:** Join the Cranwell International Center to support a globally oriented university community.
2. **Reporting Line:** Report to the Assistant Director for International Student Services.
3. **Responsibilities:** Primary focus on immigration casework and advisement; extend support remotely across Virginia Tech campuses.

5. **Compensation:** Salary range of $47,000 – $53,000 with health insurance, paid leave, retirement, tuition assistance, and more.
**Required Qualifications:**
– Experience in exercising discretion and independent judgment.
– Experience with complex organizational processes.
– Aptitude for learning and disseminating technical information and regulations.
– Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
– Strong interpersonal communication abilities.
– Experience working in intercultural contexts.
– Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
– Ability to manage pressure and balance multiple priorities.
**Preferred Qualifications:**
– Master’s Degree or equivalent experience.
– Experience with federal immigration laws and SEVIS.
– Ability to plan and deliver presentations.
– Involvement with NAFSA or similar associations.
– Experience with Banner, Sunapsis, or other student immigration management software.
**Additional Information:**
– Background check required.
– Must be a US citizen or lawful permanent resident due to DSO and ARO certifications.
