About the Role

This role will provide specialist advice and advocacy to international applicants and students about immigration and other practical issues before enrolment and during their course. You would also deliver guidance and training in a variety of formats to our international student body, including written guidance, webinars and workshops.

The successful candidate will join a busy team working alongside four Welfare Advisers and two International Student Advisers. This role is not responsible for Visa Compliance. At Queen Mary, confidential immigration advice is delivered within the Advice and Counselling Service, while student Visa Compliance is managed within Academic Registry

About You

You will have substantial experience working with international students in higher education and be aware of the challenges they may encounter. You will be competent providing immigration advice and undertaking immigration casework for students up to OISC level 2. Excellent communication and presentation skills are essential.

About the Department

The Advice and Counselling Service currently employs 43 staff equating to approximately 31FTE. It has five staff teams: Counselling, Welfare and International Advice, Mental Health, Sexual Assault and Harassment Advice and Frontline Services.

The post is based at Mile End in London. It is a full time (35 hours per week), permanent appointment, with an expected start date of 1st August 2023. The starting salary will be Grade 5, in the range of £41,386 – £48,414 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.
