University of Cumbria
We are the University of Cumbria, deeply connected to Cumbria and our surrounding areas, committed to serving our communities with a focus on people, place, and partnerships. This is an exciting time to join us as we implement our “Towards 2030” strategic plan, which aims to leverage our three core assets—People, Place, and Partnerships—to promote economic well-being locally, nationally, and globally.
Our Student Support team, part of the Directorate of Student Services, provides exceptional services to a diverse range of students across multiple campuses and online platforms, helping them achieve their academic potential. We offer information, advice, and support on a variety of topics, including student finances, accommodation, disability services, mental health and well-being, pastoral care, and general welfare, including support for re-engaging with studies.
As we enter an exciting phase of expansion with initiatives such as the UoC International College and the UoC Sanctuary Scholarship, we are looking to hire two experienced International Student Advisers to join our Student Engagement Team. These advisers will mainly focus on providing support and guidance to our international students, addressing a range of issues from welfare and immigration to personal and academic concerns, from pre-entry through graduation.
If you are seeking a dynamic role in supporting university students, we encourage you to apply. These positions, part of the Student Services team, will collaborate closely with the Academic Registry, including International Admissions, the Compliance Team, and Programme Administration, as well as academic institutes, Student Services, the Students’ Union, and the International Development Office. You will offer timely advice to help students prepare for and transition into university life, support cultural integration, and aid them throughout their academic journey. By analyzing attendance data and acting on referrals, you will ensure students at risk of disengagement receive prompt support to enhance their success and experience, directing them to specialist resources when necessary.
As part of a collaborative team, you will be responsible for creating, managing, and delivering both in-person and online activities throughout the student life cycle, such as induction sessions, workshops, and other events during the academic year. These positions also involve supervising student ambassadors at events. One role will be based at our Lancaster campus and the other at our Carlisle campus, with occasional travel required to other campuses. Both are 0.8FTE (4 days) permanent positions, operating Monday to Friday, 9-5 (days to be agreed), with some flexibility needed during busy periods like inductions and new student intakes. While the roles require on-campus presence due to their student-focused nature, hybrid work options may be available during quieter times, in line with business needs.
