Job Overview: International Recruitment and Conversion Coordinator at the University of the West of Scotland

The University of the West of Scotland (UWS) is seeking an experienced International Recruitment and Conversion Coordinator to join their International Student Recruitment team on a 12-month, full-time basis. This role is an exciting opportunity for enthusiastic individuals looking to contribute to one of Scotland’s most dynamic modern universities, with a significant impact on its global footprint.

The successful applicant will be at the forefront of UWS’s international recruitment efforts, playing a key role in the attraction, conversion, and enrollment of international students across multiple regions. Specifically, this position focuses on engaging prospective students from the MENA (Middle East and North Africa) and Africa regions, helping them transition from initial enquiry to enrollment at one of UWS’s Scottish campuses.

You will collaborate with internal teams and external partners, including international agents, to meet the enrollment targets outlined in the University’s Corporate Strategy. The role involves delivering a tailored, student-centered pre-enrollment experience, contributing to the University’s larger mission of transforming lives through education and innovation.

Qualifications and Essential Criteria:

To excel in this role, the successful applicant should meet the following criteria:

  • A degree from a recognized university.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Demonstrable experience in international student recruitment.
  • Previous work experience in a similar role at a university.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the UK university application process and international recruitment trends, including collaboration with agents and educational partners.
  • Familiarity with the UK student visa application process.
  • Personal experience of living in the UK (ensures empathy and insight into the international student journey).

Additionally, a CELTA, DELTA, TESOL, or equivalent qualification is desirable but not mandatory, as it reflects an understanding of English language teaching/testing-a skill that could enhance your engagement with international applicants.

Advice on Applying from an International Education Perspective:

If you’re considering applying for this opportunity, here’s how you can tailor your application and demonstrate your expertise in international education:

  1. Highlight Regional Expertise: Given the core focus on working with students from MENA and Africa, emphasize any regional knowledge, cultural competency, or languages you may have (e.g., Arabic, French, or regional dialects). Show clear understanding of the educational systems in these areas and how they align with UK higher education requirements.
  1. Showcase Recruitment and Conversion Skills: UWS emphasizes a student-centered approach from enquiry to arrival. Share examples of how you’ve successfully guided students or clients through complex application processes in prior roles. Include metrics where possible, such as meeting enrollment targets, increasing conversion rates, or improving student satisfaction.
  1. Underscore Understanding of the UK Education System: Highlight your knowledge of the UK’s admission procedures, partner-agent relationships, and visa requirements. Provide specifics, such as managing CAS (Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies) processes or collaborating with international agents.
  1. Share Your Experience of Living in the UK: UWS appreciates applicants who have firsthand experience of living in the UK. Highlight how this enables you to empathize with international students’ challenges and expectations, such as adjusting to cultural differences, academic systems, and visa processes.
  1. Demonstrate Flexibility and Team Spirit: This role calls for training in specialist areas and supporting others during peak recruitment periods. Provide evidence of prior teamwork, adaptability, and mentoring experience to illustrate your ability to collaborate across teams and adapt to high-pressure deadlines.
  1. Align With UWS Values: UWS emphasizes its global outlook, commitment to transformation, equality, and diversity. Demonstrate how your passion for international education aligns with these values. Discuss any commitment to promoting access and inclusivity for underrepresented groups in higher education.
