The main purpose of the International Programs Center (IPC) is to coordinate and enhance the University’s international activities, in line with its Strategic Plan for comprehensive internationalization. This involves various specific activities such as developing and managing education abroad programs, providing support services to international students and scholars, leading international student recruitment efforts, and managing outreach programs to the campus and local community. The IPC also provides financial support for international-related studies, research, and projects for students, faculty, and staff through the generosity of donors. Additionally, the IPC serves as the liaison for the Interlink Language Program, New Mind Education activities, and the Global Pathway Program. The IPC is responsible for overseeing the management of two positions that support the internationalization goals of all 16 UNC System institutions. It is also part of the UNC International Council (UCIP), which comprises the Senior International Officers at each UNC campus, and supports internationalization coordination efforts for all UCIP members.
The International Programs Coordinator position is a 12-month exempt (EHRA) position that is created to support internationalization efforts across all 16 university campuses of the UNC System. This position reports on system-wide international programs to UCIP and is supervised by the Senior International Officer at the host campus, currently the Associate Provost for International Programs at UNC Greensboro. The Coordinator collaborates with UCIP members to identify international priority issues and needs for the members. The Coordinator serves as a resource for data collection, trends, and statistics on international engagement for the UNC campuses. They also survey needs from different campuses, discuss results with UCIP members, and help set priorities that support the majority of needs for the year. The Coordinator acts as a liaison, building and maintaining relationships with various offices on campus, international offices across the UNC System, UCIP members, and relevant external partners. They research, identify, and analyze information to support internationalization efforts across the UNC System.
The minimum qualifications for the position include a bachelor’s degree with an international focus or related field, three years of work-related experience in international education at a large institution, exceptional interpersonal, intercultural, organizational, and communication skills (both written and verbal), a high level of initiative and goal orientation, familiarity with academic and cultural issues faced by international students in the US, familiarity with academic and cultural issues faced by US students studying abroad, familiarity with international higher education policies and practices of US institutions, and familiarity with communication applications such as Zoom.
Preferred qualifications for the position include an MA degree with an international focus or related field, familiarity with survey design and data analysis tools, experience in professional development event management, experience working with government agencies and organizations related to international education, active participation in relevant organizations, experience living or studying abroad, proficiency in a second language, and experience in supporting justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion efforts within global education
