International Program Coordinator – International Programs & Study Abroad Office Haslam College of Business Full-Time Position, Market Range 8
The Haslam College of Business (HCB) at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, is seeking applications for a full-time, exempt International Program Coordinator in the International Programs & Study Abroad Office. Reporting to the Assistant Director, this role is pivotal in providing services to students interested in study abroad programs and offers support to faculty working with these students. The coordinator will be instrumental in developing strategies and processes that align with the college’s internationalization goals. Key responsibilities include planning, recruiting, and advising students on study abroad options, foreign credit procedures, and academic planning. As a program leader, the coordinator will apply discretion and judgment in executing risk management procedures and represent the college in engagements with foreign partners to build institutional-level relationships. Further responsibilities involve identifying scholarship and grant opportunities to aid study abroad programs and students.
Responsibilities:
Academic Advising and Program Development Conduct individual and team-based academic advising during HCB freshman orientation to facilitate a smooth first-year transition, addressing suitable course selection and credit considerations. Maintain and update the HCB curriculum audit to assess and integrate international content that fulfills international program/course requirements. Recommend the addition or discontinuation of academic programs based on their compatibility with HCB curriculum standards. Represent the college and university at international conferences and engage with foreign partners to strengthen institutional relationships and promote student exchange and outbound mobility. Advocate for the IPSA office at campus events, conferences, and site visits.
International Program Administration and Student Logistics Lead study abroad faculty programs to ensure safe, organized, and academically enriching experiences. Assist students with application processes, develop informational resources, manage visa and travel arrangements. Continuously enhance pre-departure materials to effectively prepare students for international experiences, including safety and risk mitigation strategies. Develop and maintain best practices, technological tools, and social media solutions to manage international programs efficiently.
Program Promotion/Marketing Oversee the creation of marketing strategies and materials for HCB faculty-led and approved study abroad programs, highlighting curricular specifics related to business education. Plan events and promotional activities, and coordinate participant recognition programs. Maintain the international programs and study abroad website.
Program Resources Support the Director in developing new programs, proposals, training, and logistics. Serve as an informational resource regarding programs and policies for faculty, staff, and other offices. Participate in training and activities to maintain professional expertise. Coordinate scholarship application processes, manage selection committees, oversee the blind review process, and handle necessary paperwork for funded students.
Program Analytics Develop and maintain a library of international resources for faculty and students. Ensure accuracy and completeness of data relating to international programs and participants. Collect and analyze data to monitor trends in higher education and competitor programming.
Qualifications:
Required: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field. Minimum of one year of experience in international education, student services, academic advising, international engagement, or a related field. Graduate assistantship or practicum/internship may count as half-time experience. A Master’s degree, or completion within one semester, may substitute for one year of experience.
Desired: Master’s degree in a relevant field. Experience in public speaking, proficiency in a foreign language, and prior experience of living, working, or studying abroad.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Required: Familiarity with global programs in higher education, including standards and requirements. Strong organizational abilities and time management skills. Capacity for independent judgment and adherence to program policies. Ability to build effective relationships with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds. Professional interaction with study abroad representatives, faculty, and students, maintaining protocol and confidentiality. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including interaction with non-native English speakers. Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends as needed. Willingness to travel internationally.
Preferred: Experience in public speaking Living or studying abroad experience Proficiency in a foreign language
