We are seeking a highly motivated international policy manager to join our close-knit policy team at the Academy. In this role, you will be responsible for leading various international policy activities, including long-term projects and scientific symposia, workshops, and lectures. Your primary objective will be to increase the Academy’s impact on global health through collaboration with our partners. You may also be required to support policy activities that contribute to our broader strategic objectives.

Ideally, you should have a degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant area, or equivalent work experience. Experience in global health policy issues and working in partnership with other countries would be advantageous. We encourage applications from candidates with diverse professional backgrounds.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Support the Academy’s international policy portfolio by informing and influencing international policy and stakeholders. This will involve engaging with our Fellowship and collaborating with national and international organizations in the biomedical field, including academia, healthcare, industry, and charities.
2. Lead strategic international policy activities, including delivering priority projects, following up on international working group reports, and identifying topics for future projects.
3. Provide oversight and guidance for the Academy’s European policy work and collaborate closely with the Federation of European Academies of Medicine.
4. Organize strategic meetings, events, workshops, and the annual International Health Lecture with international partners.
5. Oversee the Academy’s international networks, including the Inter Academy Partnership and the International Science Council.
6. Represent the Academy on the cross-academy UK Human Rights Committee.
7. Develop briefing papers, position statements, and consultation responses, including joint publications with other organizations.
8. Support the Academy’s Vice President, International in their activities.
9. Maintain a thorough understanding of the international policy landscape, monitor developments and key policy issues, and escalate relevant information to key staff members.
10. Draft papers for meetings of the Council and Honorary Officers of the Academy.
11. Represent the Academy at external meetings and deputize for the Head of International when required.
12. Promote the Academy and its values with international partners.
13. Manage international policy project budgets and ensure compliance with funding requirements.
14. Line manage and develop the Senior European Policy Officer.
15. Manage the Academy’s open internship scheme, including advertisement and recruitment.
16. Contribute to the evaluation of the policy team’s activities and the development of new ways of working.
17. Maintain relevant areas of the website and collaborate with the Communications staff to ensure internal and external engagement with the Academy’s policy work, including through digital media.

What You Bring to the Role:
– Excellent interpersonal skills with a proven ability to collaborate, connect, and influence peers and senior figures.
– Understanding of global health research and its impact on society.
– Ability to develop and deliver international events that facilitate connections among diverse groups of people.
– Strong written communication skills and the ability to synthesize complex information for different audiences.
– Ideally, experience in an organization focused on international policy or global health research.
– Willingness to travel.
