Penn State Global is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of International Faculty Adviser (IFA) within the International Student & Scholar Advising (ISSA) unit. The IFA will be part of a team of up to five advisers and will report to the Assistant Director of International Faculty Advising. This role involves providing guidance and support to international staff, faculty, scholars, and their dependents regarding United States immigration compliance and regulations related to their employment at Penn State University.
The primary responsibilities of the IFA include providing direct advisement, training, support, and case management for international faculty and staff in employment-based visa status processes. These can include visas such as H-1B, E-3, TN, O-1, EB2/Special Handling, and EB1 Outstanding Professors and Researchers. Additionally, the IFA will be involved in administrative compliance activities to ensure adherence to U.S. Government and federal labor laws. Exceptional customer service skills and the ability to effectively communicate with various stakeholders within Penn State Global and across the University are crucial for this role.
The successful candidate must possess strong interpersonal skills, the ability to work collaboratively in a team setting, and demonstrate strong organizational skills, critical thinking/problem-solving ability, attention to detail, and adaptability to changing systems and procedures.
Penn State Global supports flexible work arrangements, and this position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement combining in-person and remote work. Interested applicants should inquire about flexible work options during the interview process.
To be considered for this position, applicants must have a bachelor’s degree in fields such as higher education administration, international students, international education, or public policy, along with at least 2 years of related experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered.

Required skills and abilities for the IFA position include a minimum of one year of immigration-related advising and processing, excellent organizational skills with attention to detail, multitasking abilities with the ability to meet deadlines and adapt to changing priorities, willingness to work beyond 40 hours when necessary, handling of confidential information with discretion and ethical performance, ability to work independently as well as in a team, excellent interpersonal skills, experience with immigration software or technical proficiency to learn new software, and the ability to access government systems requiring U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Residency.
Preferred skills and abilities include employment-based immigration advising and processing experience, as well as experience using SUNAPSIS software.
