The Office of International Students and Scholars (OISS) serves as a central resource on campus for international students, scholars, and their families, fostering a strong sense of community through orientation programs for new arrivals and various year-round activities. This role collaborates with campus and community partners, including student organizations and International Spouses and Partners at Yale (ISPY), orchestrating a wide array of programs and initiatives. It oversees the International Programming Fund (IPF) and supervises student workers, while also managing the relationship with McDougal International Fellows.
The International Community Engagement Specialist is responsible for developing a communication strategy, utilizing social media, the OISS website, and newsletters. They design, implement, and manage programs aimed at supporting and building a cohesive community for international students and scholars, ensuring they have the best possible experience at Yale. This specialist identifies and cultivates partnerships with university and community entities to develop these programs and evaluates their effectiveness.
This role assists in the planning, coordination, and execution of pre-arrival and orientation programs, as well as communications, to help newly arrived international students and scholars transition smoothly to university life. The specialist develops programs that utilize the International Center, creating an environment that feels like a home away from home for international members. They provide guidance and programmatic support to spouses and partners at Yale, liaise with international and intercultural student groups, and promote intercultural understanding through various programs. This role also manages the International Program Fund.
The specialist researches, designs, and implements innovative communication tools and solutions to enhance engagement with the international community. They assist in content development for the OISS website and prepare the weekly OISS e-Newsletter, manage social media channels, and oversee other office communications.
Additionally, this role supervises OISS student workers, coordinates and co-supervises the efforts of McDougal International Fellows, and assists the Associate Director of Engagement, Assessment, and Operations in broader assessment efforts within OISS.
A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in a related field and four years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, is required. Candidates must have demonstrated success in developing support programs for international communities, proficiency in web editing and social media design, and an understanding of the cultural, social, and personal transitions faced by international populations
