University of Hertfordshire

Job Overview:
The University of Hertfordshire (UH) is seeking an enthusiastic and proactive International Admissions Administrator to join its International Office, a pivotal department supporting global student recruitment and admissions. As an International Admissions Administrator, you will play a vital role in assessing and processing international student applications while working closely with academic tutors to ensure prompt and accurate admission decisions. In this role, you will develop expertise in international education systems and qualifications, working collaboratively with the university’s recruitment and business development teams to support its global strategy. This position is suited for individuals who are passionate about higher education, international engagement, and customer service, and who take pride in providing a seamless application experience for students worldwide.

Main Responsibilities:
Your key tasks will include evaluating applications, ensuring that applicants meet the university’s entry requirements, and clearing any conditional aspects of their applications. You will have direct communication with prospective students, guiding them through the application process and offering exceptional customer service. Additionally, you will collaborate with academic admissions tutors and recruitment teams to meet deadlines, maintain accuracy, and ensure a robust understanding of international education to strengthen the university’s admissions process.

Skills and Qualifications:
To be successful in this role, candidates must:

  1. Have administrative expertise: Previous experience in an administrative role, ideally within education, is essential.
  2. Provide outstanding service: A strong commitment to high-quality service delivery and a focus on customer experience are key.
  3. Show excellent communication and organizational abilities: Written and oral communication skills, interpersonal abilities, and multitasking capabilities are critical for success.
  4. Have familiarity with IT systems: Experience with databases such as CRM (Customer Relationship Management systems) and student record systems is desirable.
  5. Understand (or be willing to learn about) international qualifications: Knowledge of overseas education frameworks is a plus, as is fluency in another language.
  6. Hold relevant academic qualifications: You should have at least A-levels or an equivalent qualification, or sufficient proven experience.

Why Join the University of Hertfordshire?
The University offers competitive benefits, including 25 annual leave days (plus public holidays and additional closure days during Christmas), flexible work opportunities, generous workplace policies, and access to its sports and wellbeing facilities. The International Office is a dynamic and supportive environment where your contributions directly impact UH’s global reputation. As part of a community committed to equality, diversity, and inclusion, employees at UH work to transform lives daily.

Advice for Applicants (From an International Education Perspective):

  1. Demonstrate International Awareness: Since this is a globally focused role, showcasing an awareness of international education systems, cultural sensitivity, and your passion for creating a positive experience for international students will make your application stand out. For example, mention your familiarity with qualifications like IB, A-levels, or other overseas credentials, or highlight any experience with international students or colleagues.
  1. Highlight Transferable Skills: Even if you do not have direct experience in international admissions, emphasize transferable skills such as organization, customer service, IT literacy, or administration in fast-paced environments. Provide clear examples in your personal statement.
  1. Relate to the Mission: UH takes pride in its vision of transforming lives. Mention how your skills, experience, and personal ethos align with this mission. If you’ve worked in roles that contributed to people’s personal or educational growth, reference these examples.
  1. Be Clear About Immigration Standing: Note that the university is unable to provide sponsorship for this role. Ensure you address your eligibility to work in the UK, so this does not hold up your application process.
  1. Tailor Your Personal Statement: This is your chance to show how your experience aligns with UH’s expectations. Carefully read the job description and person specification and respond directly to each criterion with specific evidence. Borrow terminology from the ad (e.g., “high-quality service,” “international qualifications”) to mirror the language used by the university.
  1. Showcase Customer Service Skills: Since this role involves regular communication with applicants, demonstrate how you’ve previously worked with people in high-pressure, detail-oriented, or customer-focused scenarios, such as handling inquiries, solving problems, or working against deadlines.
  1. Leverage Language Skills (if applicable): If you know another language, be sure to include it in your application, as this can be advantageous for communicating with international applicants.

Application Timeline and Next Steps:

  • Closing Date: October 22, 2025 – Ensure your application is submitted well in advance.
  • Interview Date: To be confirmed – Prepare by researching the university’s international strategy and familiarizing yourself with trends in global education.
