Institute and Faculty of Actuaries
We are currently recruiting two Independent Educational Specialists for our Education Operations Committee with experience of the professional learning space.
The IFoA is the UK’s only chartered professional body dedicated to educating, developing, and regulating actuaries based around the globe. We have a worldwide membership of over 34,000 of which almost 50% are student members. 46% of our total membership is based outside the UK, reflecting the increasingly global nature of actuarial practice.
The new Education Operations Committee (EOC) oversees the operational integrity of the IFoA’s pre- and post-qualification learning and assessment on behalf of the Non-Executive Management Board. It provides the board with assurance that these operate to good sector practice in terms of operational education policy and standards, and regulatory expectations. It also supports the formulation and execution of our learning strategy as determined by the IFoA Council.
Members of the EOC will be expected to:
- bring ideas and experience, and play a pro-active role in driving the quality of the IFoA’s learning operations forward
- be suitably prepared for meetings, having read all papers prior to attendance
- take special responsibility for specific committee activities when required
- offer constructive comment and input at meetings and on ad hoc activity between meetings
To encourage continuity, members will be appointed to the EOC for a period of three years, which may be renewed, by mutual consent, for a further two or three years.
The EOC will typically meet for two hours three to four times each year with participation via both virtual and face-to-face meetings in London. In addition there will be follow up actions and communications between meetings, by both email and video calls.
Independent members shall be paid through the IFoA’s payroll. An honorarium of £350 (gross) is payable per day plus travel expenses.
Candidates need to have:
- a deep operational understanding of andragogy/professional learning
- awareness of the global requirements for professional learning
- a ‘strategic’ mindset and views on how the IFoA’s learning can support current and future members, and enhance their standing globally
- experience as an independent non-executive committee member
- sound commercial acumen
- a willingness to play a proactive role in championing the education and learning activities of the IFoA
Ideally, they also have:
