Position Title: F-1 Specialist (Immigration Specialist)

Position Description: The F-1 Specialist provides support to the institution in its immigration sponsorship and compliance efforts. The specialist delivers exceptional services to international faculty, scholars, and professionals, while maintaining strict confidentiality of immigration matters.

Work Location: Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, CampusHSC – Lubbock (on-site, no remote employment)

Major/Essential Functions:
– Collaborate with the Managing Director (MD) to oversee immigration caseload from intake through processing, and handle other duties assigned to Immigration & Compliance Services (ICS).
– Act as a Designated School Official (DSO) with legal signatory immigration documents (I-20) for F-1 international students.
– Maintain internal (education record, FSA) and external records (SEVIS) in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
– Verify students’ required academic enrollment and register all SEVIS records accordingly each term.
– Provide guidance to non-immigrant students on immigration regulations (maintenance of status, employment authorization, travel, changes of status, etc.).
– Advise TTUHSC school officials on F-1 student maintenance of status and benefits.
– Collaborate with TTUHSC Provost’s office to offer guidance to international students on personal, academic, financial, and cultural issues.
– Design and conduct international student orientations for incoming F-1 international students.
– Coordinate with TTUHSC Provost’s office to create and distribute pre-arrival information to incoming F-1 students.
– Request all necessary documentation from admitted students to issue international documents as part of the application process.
– Develop informational resources to educate international students and TTUHSC Schools on laws and regulations related to immigration.
– Contribute input to yearly budgets for F-1 program participant minimum funding and documentation requirements.
– Review and update the F-1 student application process and requirements.
– Prepare and file temporary, non-immigrant and permanent, immigrant visa petitions and applications for sponsored employees, under supervision.
– Serve as a Department of State, Alternative Responsible Officer (ARO) for the J-1 Exchange Visitor Program.
– Assist with internal reviews or audits of immigration-related data, processes, and documents.
– Stay updated on immigration regulations and requirements, including completing DSO training.
– Assist with I-9/E-Verify cases for international students and employees.

Required Qualifications:
– Bachelor’s degree and two (2) years of experience in an administrative management, analyst, paralegal, or related position. Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications:
– Experience with F visa status, including serving as a SEVIS DSO in a moderate to high-volume setting.
– Experience with employment-based immigration filings, such as H-1B, O-1, TN, PERM Labor Certification, Applications (Regular and Academic), and I-140 Immigrant Visa petitions (EB-1, EB-2 (PERM-based and NIW)).
– Physician immigration experience is a plus.
– Experience with drafting and supporting PERM application processes, including Academic/Special Handling cases.
– Background in Human Resources and/or recruiting.
– Experience working in a higher education environment.
– Knowledge of immigration software.
