Students' Union UCL

The Students’ Union UCL aims to create more opportunities for University College London’s (UCL) diverse student community. As one of the largest student-led organisations in the UK, with over 48,000 members, we provide a range of opportunities for our 300 staff and have an annual turnover of over £12m. Currently, our organisation is growing as we implement our new Student Life Strategy which received a multi-million-pound investment in 2023 to enhance student life at UCL. We are seeking a Head of Intercultural Engagement who will lead the Intercultural Engagement strand of our Student Life Strategy. This is a full-time, permanent hybrid role, requiring between 20% and 80% on-site work using an activity-led approach that offers staff more flexibility.

The ideal candidate will have experience in developing and managing successful international partnerships and delivering programmes across international boundaries. Additionally, they should have a passion for supporting the development of intercultural understanding across a vibrant community. The Head of Intercultural Engagement will be responsible for creating a truly global experience for all UCL students, building links across the world, and creating opportunities for international volunteering, encouraging every student to become internationally aware, culturally inquisitive, and a true global citizen with the capacity to change the world for the better.

The successful candidate will lead the work of the Union on Freedom of Speech, developing a new project in this area to help students disagree well, especially as we tackle challenging issues in an uncertain world. As this is a new and unique role, the Head of Intercultural Engagement will have the opportunity to build a team from scratch, working across the organisation to develop new programmes of activity. The right candidate will have a detailed understanding of contemporary international challenges, political astuteness, and an ability to navigate complex topics and events in a culturally sensitive manner.

If you meet our key requirements, we encourage you to apply. Please note that we will not accept CVs and that your statement of support should address the selection criteria in the person specification and outline your reasons for applying. Our application closing date is June 12, 2023, at 9 am. To apply, please click the “Apply” button above
