The Global Engagement team at UCL is looking for a dedicated and skilled Global Engagement Manager (GEM) to join their team. Reporting to the Senior Global Engagement Manager (East Asia), GEMs are an integral part of the team, providing excellent support to the Senior Global Engagement Managers (SGEMs) and Strategic Global Initiatives Managers (SGIMs).
In this role, GEMs will be responsible for maintaining strong relationships with external partner organizations, serving as the main point of contact and ensuring effective and responsive management of the partnerships. GEMs will collaborate with partners to support the implementation of current and new activities. Additionally, GEMs will offer practical assistance and insights to SGEMs and SGIMs in the development of new projects and provide operational advice and support to Faculties for their global engagement efforts. GEMs will work closely with SGEMs to enhance their knowledge and understanding of the different international contexts in which UCL operates.
The East Asia portfolio within the Global Engagement team covers a diverse range of activities and countries, including Mainland China, Hong Kong, Japan, and South Korea. Initially, this role will focus primarily on Mainland China and Hong Kong, with the flexibility to support activities across all regions as needed. Experience in the higher education sector and a good understanding of relevant socio-political and cultural contexts are preferred qualifications for this role. Some international travel may be required.

This role offers hybrid working, with a minimum of 40% on-site work, including mandatory attendance on Wednesdays.
About you:
The ideal candidate for this position will have some experience in developing international partnerships, preferably in higher education, research, innovation, governmental, or policy-related areas. While experience in these sectors is beneficial, candidates with transferable skills from other sectors are also encouraged to apply. Given the initial focus of this role, a strong understanding of the geopolitical environment, cultural contexts, and socioeconomic trends of the East Asia region, particularly China, is desired.
You may already have practical experience and awareness of internationalization in higher education and be interested in expanding your knowledge in this area. Alternatively, you may be looking to gain practical experience and knowledge in internationalization for the first time. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of managing multiple complex projects simultaneously, independently keeping them on track while working collaboratively with the team.
Strong written, interpersonal, and analytical skills are essential for this role, but there will be ample opportunities to further develop these skills. The ability to work effectively in an international environment, engaging with diverse cultures and communicating with various internal and external stakeholders, is vital.
