### Job Opportunity at Akita International University: Faculty Position in International Cooperation and Development
The Faculty of International Liberal Arts at Akita International University (AIU) is seeking applications for a tenure-track position in the field of international cooperation and development. This role is open at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level, with a starting date of April 1, 2025.
#### About Akita International University
Founded in 2004 as Japan’s first public university corporation, AIU offers a comprehensive English-medium education in international liberal arts. Designed to prepare students for leadership roles in a global context, AIU was ranked 15th overall and 2nd for student engagement in the 2023 Times Higher Education (THE) ranking of Japanese universities. Located in Akita, Japan, the university operates on a semester calendar, which includes an intensive winter program. AIU requires all students to spend one full academic year studying abroad and hosts about 25% of its students from 200 exchange partner institutions. #### About the Position
The Global Studies Program seeks a passionate educator and researcher capable of offering courses in international cooperation and development. The successful candidate will teach approximately 18 credits (6 courses) per year, all conducted in English.
**Required Qualifications:**
– MA or Ph.D. in international cooperation and development or a related field.
– Proven ability to teach subjects related to Japan’s international cooperation, development, and geopolitics.
– Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
– High proficiency in teaching in English.
– Scholarly promise.
– Commitment to liberal arts education and the AIU Mission Statement.
**Desired Qualifications:**
– Experience in international cooperation roles at government agencies or international organizations.
– University-level teaching experience.
– Scholarly achievements.
– Experience in multicultural and inclusive environments.
– Familiarity with Japanese culture and experience living or working in Japan.
#### Responsibilities
– Teach undergraduate courses related to international cooperation and development.
– Advise individual undergraduate students.
– Engage in scholarly activities leading to presentations and publications.
– Participate in service to the university, the program, and the community.
– Collaborate with faculty and staff on program development.
#### Appointment Details
The initial appointment will be a three-year fixed-term contract, renewable up to two times, with the possibility of tenure. The salary is competitive within Japan and commensurate with qualifications and experience. The remuneration package includes generous benefits such as a partial housing allowance, health insurance, and a research fund allowance.
