The Education Abroad Advisor is responsible for supporting education abroad programs at Miami University. This includes advising students, faculty, and staff on various opportunities and options, ensuring compliance with university policies, and preparing students for their immersion experiences. The advisor also works on developing and offering opportunities for returning students to reflect on and apply their experiences. Additionally, the advisor advocates for global immersion experiences on campus and supports the mission of Global Initiatives.
This position allows for remote work on a hybrid basis. However, Miami University reserves the right to modify or revoke the remote work arrangement at any time. The advisor may work up to 40% remotely (1-2 days per week) based on a set departmental schedule.
The Education Abroad Advisor will be part of a team at Global Initiatives that prioritizes diversity and aims to create an inclusive and equitable working and learning environment. The team achieves this through programming that exposes students, staff, and faculty to various ways of engaging with the world and its diversity.
The key responsibilities of the Education Abroad Advisor include:
- Informing and advising students on education abroad opportunities, including financial aid and budgeting.
- Assisting with the management of education abroad programs and applications through Studio Abroad.
- Implementing the marketing and outreach strategy for the Education Abroad Office.
- Managing outbound approved non-Miami transfer credit and exchange programs.
- Serving as a liaison to other student services units on campus.
- Aligning study abroad options with the Miami University curriculum.
- Supervising the Ambassador program for returned study abroad students.
- Developing programming and events for returned study abroad students.
Requirements for this position include a Bachelor’s degree, prior experience studying abroad or supporting diverse populations, and prior student-facing work experience in an educational setting. Preferred qualifications include a master’s degree, ability to manage complex tasks, experience working with diverse populations in higher education, strong time management and communication skills, foreign language proficiency, and full-time experience with education abroad advising at the undergraduate level.
