#### Company Overview
The Office of International Education and Global Initiatives (IEGI) at Binghamton University oversees the institution’s international exchange and education abroad programs.
#### Position: Education Abroad Advisor
The Education Abroad Advisor provides administrative, technical, and programmatic support for various functions of the IEGI, ensuring accuracy, clear communication, and efficiency within a public university setting. Enthusiastic energy is crucial for promotional and outreach activities. The role requires forming excellent relationships with faculty, education abroad directors and advisors, counterparts at other institutions (national and international), campus offices, students, and parents. The advisor must exhibit diplomacy, patience, cooperation, and, when necessary, firm authority. This position reports to the Associate Director of International Education and Global Initiatives.
#### Key Responsibilities
**Coordination of Education Abroad Programs:**
– Collaborate with IEGI, International Education and Global Affairs (IEGA) colleagues, partner institutions, faculty, and other campus entities to coordinate program logistics.
– Address and resolve program challenges.
– Manage the entire education abroad program cycle, from recruitment and advising to application guidance, program material editing, participant selection, on-site arrangements, program logistics, emergency response planning, and pre-departure orientations.
– Evaluate programs and propose enhancements, especially within the advisor’s portfolio.
– Work as a team member on tasks including advising, presenting, scholarship implementation, marketing, mentorship, campus outreach, and front desk coverage.
– Conduct site visits to gather current information on program partners and student environments.
**General Education Abroad Advising:**
– Provide general advising via drop-in hours, appointments, Zoom, and front desk coverage, including some evening and weekend events.
– Advise at Education Abroad Fairs, SUNY fairs, campus presentations, and collaborative events.
– Organize, implement, and assess general information programs and sessions.
– Stay updated on university, SUNY, and non-SUNY education abroad programs and policies.
– Apply best practices in education abroad advising.
**Campus Outreach:**
– Collaborate with campus colleagues to support prospective, current, and past education abroad participants.
– Develop and assess collaborative programs, represent IEGI on campus-wide committees, and serve on scholarship committees.
– Represent IEGI at campus and community events and presentations.
#### Requirements
– Bachelor’s degree
– Valid NYS driver’s license
– Experience in undergraduate study abroad
– Problem-solving skills and proactive initiative
– Strong organizational abilities to manage multiple tasks
– Excellent written skills and attention to detail
– Diplomatic, composed, and proactive communication skills
– Cross-cultural communication skills and experience in public speaking
– Professional demeanor
– Ability to work independently and as part of a team
– Commitment to high-quality, efficient customer service
– Proficiency in education abroad program management software
– Flexible, creative, energetic, well-organized, and task-oriented
– Availability for occasional evenings, weekends, and international travel
**Preferred Qualifications:**
– Master’s degree
– At least two years of uninterrupted professional experience in higher education
– Study abroad experience in non-traditional locations
– Multi-lingual abilities
