GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Reporting to the Associate Vice President of Study Abroad and International Programs, the Director of Pitzer Programs will oversee the day-to-day operations of Pitzer’s Program Management. The incumbent will partner with other members of the Study Abroad leadership team to strategically plan the offices support to students in the Study Abroad program. As a strategic thought partner, the incumbent will provide oversight and assessment to legal requirements and risk assessment. Responsible for the Pitzer Programs operational budget, this role will partner with members of the Study Abroad program to forecast fiscal year budgets, grants, and fellowships.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Pitzer Program Management

    • Maintain regular communication with field staff and oversee day-to-day operations of the Pitzer programs abroad.

    • Monitor news on program locations to stay abreast of situations that may have an impact on program or student safety.

    • Facilitate executive communication with parents of students on Pitzer Programs

    • In collaboration with Study Abroad staff and other offices of the College, develop information management systems that build the capacity of the Study Abroad office to deliver Pitzer programs.

  • Legal and Risk Management

    • Monitor safety procedures and keep health information up to date for each of the Pitzer program locations.

    • Provide first line of response for emergency situations.

  • Academic Planning, Documentation, and Evaluation

    • Provide support on the development of new and ongoing study abroad programs and provide support to faculty liaisons for Pitzer Programs.

    • Supervise Pitzer-run program records including correspondence, grades, independent study projects, official documents, etc.

    • Supervise the archiving of Pitzer-run program documentation, and student program evaluations for use in promotional materials.

    • Participate in the team planning and administration of the summer conference and other staff development activities.

    • Supervise Pitzer directors abroad in collecting documentation for WASC review: fieldbooks, DISP’s, learning surveys.

    • Prepare annual self-study reports for Pitzer-run programs, and logistics needed for the comprehensive review of Study Abroad programs.

Financial Management, Budget & Personnel

  • Develop and maintain excellent working relationships and communications among the domestic and overseas staff of Pitzer-run programs.

  • Facilitate the process of hiring and training personnel for Pitzer-run programs; assist the Assistant Vice President for International Programs as requested with other personnel matters for Study Abroad.

  • In collaboration with the Director of Study Abroad and International Programs systems and services, manage the budgets, accounts, and billing/ receivables for Pitzer programs; involve all study abroad staff in the budget planning and implementation. process; and prepare regular budget reports.
