The College of Global Studies at Arcadia University (based in Philadelphia, PA, USA), is one of the largest campus-based international study programs in the United States, serving a total of over 2000 students each year from over 250 colleges and universities around the country. Arcadia has supported programs in Ireland for decades. Arcadia’s Dublin Centre, located in the Temple Bar area, offers classes, academic programs, student life services and other forms of comprehensive support to participating students. The Director is supported by a small team with a seasoned Assistant Director.

The Position:

An exciting opportunity now exists for an exceptionally skilled and engaging student-centered leader to take on the pivotal role of Director of Irish Programs and Enterprise. The College’s programmes in Ireland currently support 250 students on average and this role will cater for enrollment growth through innovative partnerships with Irish universities and higher education organisations, as well as internships, summer programs, undergraduate research and cohort programming.

Essential requirements of the role:

The role calls for an innovative, versatile, student-engagement-centered, creative higher education professional with significant professional experience in higher education, a Master’s Degree as well as demonstrated ability to create and deliver a culture and program of student engagement that results in high student satisfaction and learning; significant senior academic administrative experience in international education which includes program design and development, strategic planning, budgeting and operations; and a demonstrated record of entrepreneurial engagement and development of innovative revenue-generating initiatives.

Furthermore, the ideal candidate should possess:

  • 8 years professional experience in Higher Education.
  • Knowledge of the education abroad field, its professional associations, trends and research.
  • Demonstrated success with continuous improvement, including understanding of change management principles, tools and techniques.
  • Experience developing and implementing plans to manage change, and evaluating the success of change efforts.
  • Proven experience in building and maintaining positive business partnerships, including negotiating mutually beneficial business terms and exploring synergistic joint ventures.
  • The ability to build strong ties in the local community to create a network of internship partners.
  • A demonstrated willingness to embrace the principles of Inclusive Excellence.
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of professionalism and integrity, as well as a demonstrated capacity to build meaningful rapport and demonstrate empathy.
  • Ability to work in an innovative, dynamic, fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment that requires multi-tasking and workload prioritisation.
  • Skilled at working in an environment that requires significant collaboration, collegiality and professionalism.
  • Proven ability to establish a meaningful rapport and appropriate mentoring/advising relationship with college-age students.

Conditions:

  • The Director is expected to work occasional evenings, weekends and holidays as programs and events require. Working across timezones will occasionally require early morning or evening meetings as well. The Director is expected to be on call after hours for all serious emergencies and for standard emergencies which cannot be handled by the after-hours on-call staff. They may also be expected to travel within the region or to the U.S. on occasion for risk assessment, management of serious student issues, program development and planning, and staff training. The normal place of work will be the Arcadia Dublin Centre but hybrid working arrangements are currently operated in the Dublin Centre as business needs allow.
  • Non-contributory 8% Employer contribution to retirement fund, contribution to private health insurance; 20 days annual leave plus 11 public holidays; hybrid working environment.
