Job Details
Company: The Director of International Student Services reports to the Dean of Enrollment Services and serves as the university’s Primary Designated School Official (PDSO). The Director is responsible for overseeing the Student Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS), managing international student documents and issuing I-20 forms, and providing support and guidance for international students’ post-completion options. Additionally, the Director plays a role in recruitment, admissions evaluation, and reading admissions files to support the enrollment goals of the university.
Candidates should demonstrate an understanding and responsiveness towards diverse student backgrounds and have a willingness to support the university’s mission to develop global citizens.
Essential duties include:
International Student Services:
– Serve as the main contact for regulatory issues affecting international students with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), US Customs and Immigration Services (USCIS), and US Department of State (USDOS).
– Interpret regulations authorizing the university to admit and enroll international students.
– Create and distribute necessary information for international students, including policies and procedures.
– Counsel and support international students in obtaining necessary travel documents for study abroad programs and provide guidance on post-completion options.
– Collaborate with other offices on campus to ensure timely issuance of I-20 documents.
SEVIS Data Maintenance:
– Manage the SEVIS system for reporting international student information and oversee visa processing.
– Prepare materials for SEVIS recertification and maintain active SEVIS user records.
– Track and certify students’ enrollment and submit data correction requests when needed.
– Gather essential documents and issue I-20 forms.
– Collaborate with the Office of Admission and Office of Financial Aid in issuing I-20 documents.
International Admission:
– Manage inquiries from prospective international students and use CRM systems to record student data.
– Gather, analyze, and present data for enrollment forecasting.
– Evaluate application materials and provide recommendations for admission.
– Assist in the development and revision of admission materials.
Management/Leadership:
– Supervise professional staff and student workers.
– Incorporate regulatory changes into internal policies and procedures.
– Serve as a liaison between Enrollment Service offices and other departments.
Orientations, Activities & Workshops:
– Plan and conduct workshops for international students.
– Support Enrollment Services-sponsored events.
– Plan and implement employment workshops.
– Encourage cross-cultural awareness and social interactions among students.
Other Administrative Duties:
– Manage the OISS office budget.
– Organize and maintain student records.
– Stay informed about changes in immigration regulations.
– Support international initiatives.
Minimum Qualifications:
Requirements:
– Only U.S. Citizens and Permanent Residents may apply due to federal database access requirements.
Education:
– Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred in a related field.
Experience:
– Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in academic administration.
– Experience in international student services and knowledge of best practices in related areas.
– Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
– Proficiency in SEVIS and student information systems.
– Knowledge of admission and financial aid processes.
– Experience working with diverse and international populations.
– Solid understanding of university mission and community.

– Ability to develop and sustain relationships with various stakeholders.
– Proficiency in computer systems.
– Knowledge of USCIS regulations and SEVIS processes.

Soka University of America offers excellent benefits. The anticipated salary range for this position is $83,000 – $95,000, based on qualifications and experience.
