**Position Purpose:** The Director of International Student and Scholar Services ensures Whitman College’s compliance with federal regulations for F-1 international students and J-1 visiting scholars. The Director supports about 300 international students and scholars annually, advocates for their needs, and enhances their engagement with the broader community. This is an in-person role during the academic year, with hybrid options in the summer.

#### Principal Accountabilities:
1. **Federal Immigration Compliance (40%)**
2. **Support for International Students on Campus (30%)**
3. **Orientation for New International Students & Scholars (10%)**
4. **ISSS-Related Technology (10%)**
5. **Support for International Alumni (10%)**
#### Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
1. Expertise in federal laws governing F and J visa holders, including international tax treaties and Social Security requirements.
2. Strong critical thinking and sound judgment in complex advising situations.
3. Effective interpersonal skills for cross-cultural settings.
4. Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and antiracism.
5. Proficiency in time management and meeting deadlines.
6. High discretion in handling confidential information.
7. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
8. Familiarity with Google apps, Microsoft apps, and international student management software.
9. Ability to travel domestically for professional meetings.
#### Minimum Qualifications:
1. Bachelor’s degree.
2. 3-5 years of relevant experience in an international office as a PDSO or DSO.
#### Preferred Qualifications:
1. Active membership in NAFSA: Association of International Educators.
2. Experience living abroad.
