ABOUT NORTHEASTERN ILLINOIS UNIVERSITY

IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL:
Reporting directly to the Vice President for Enrollment Management, the Director of International Programs plays a critical role in leading Northeastern Illinois University in a globally oriented environment. The director is responsible for the planning, marketing, delivery, and oversight of the university’s international programs, with a focus on streamlining operations, digitization, and increasing international enrollments. Key duties include:
– Leading global and international strategic planning, visioning, and implementation efforts at the university.
– Developing and executing a comprehensive global engagement plan, which includes the recruitment of undergraduate and graduate students, study abroad programs, international partnerships, and visiting scholars.
– Collaborating with various university offices and academic colleges to effectively recruit and retain international students.
– Identifying trends and providing support for international student recruiting, retention, and success.
– Supervising staff and personnel matters, including recruitment, evaluation, supervision, and professional development.
– Maintaining communications with current international partners and cultivating new partnerships to increase international enrollments.
– Leading efforts to increase student participation in study abroad programs and attracting a greater number of international students to the university.
– Ensuring compliance with federal regulations related to student visa processing and recordkeeping.
– Managing budgets, planning, oversight, and procurement for all international program budgets.
– Performing any other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
– Master’s Degree with 7-10 years of relevant experience and progressive leadership in growing international student enrollments.
– Demonstrated experience in streamlining International Program operations, utilizing technology, managing staff, and implementing cost-effective recruitment tools.
– Preferred experience working with federal agencies on student and faculty visas.
– Knowledge of international issues and trends in higher education, including best practices in international education and federal regulations supporting international student and scholar success.
– Familiarity with student recruitment, effective marketing strategies, faculty engagement, research, and studying abroad.
– Comprehensive knowledge of international education, program design and development, budget management, and staff supervision.
– Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and administrators on program and policy development.
– Proven ability to develop and maintain domestic and international education partnerships.
– Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally and utilize virtual marketing and recruitment tools.
– Strong organizational, communication, and diplomatic skills.
– Outstanding interpersonal skills to promote collaboration and teamwork.
– Ability to navigate intercultural and international settings with cultural sensitivity and diplomacy.
– Evidence of a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Preferred Qualifications:
– Experience as a responsible officer (RO) for a college/university campus through Homeland Security and experience with SEVIS.
– Success in obtaining funds through federal funding programs to support internationalization of academic programs and global research and development.
– Fundraising and stewardship experience for international partnerships and programs.
– Ability to inspire staff, foster collaboration, and engage diverse groups of constituents.
