The University of Law

Join the University of Law as the Director of International Development and Help Shape Global Education

The University of Law is seeking an ambitious and experienced professional to lead its international expansion and partnerships strategy. As Director of International Development, you will play a central role in strengthening the University’s global presence by establishing meaningful relationships, launching innovative academic programmes, and overseeing strategic initiatives with partners across the world-including Europe, Asia, the Americas, and the Middle East.

This senior-level position is perfect for a candidate with expertise in transnational education (TNE), a track record of navigating cross-border partnerships, and strategic leadership capabilities. Working closely with the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Law) and various departments, you will drive the development of programmes and partnerships that align with the University’s vision of becoming a leader in global legal and professional education.

With a hybrid work setup based at the University’s London Moorgate campus and frequent international travel, your leadership will help the University meet income and global strategic goals while building lasting partnerships in the ever-evolving landscape of higher education.

The Role’s Key Responsibilities

As Director of International Development, your core duties include:

  • Leading the strategic planning and execution of international and online partnerships to expand the University’s global reach.
  • Forging new partnerships and developing programmes tailored to global markets and institutional priorities.
  • Collaborating closely with finance, marketing, legal, and academic teams to diversify the University’s global education offerings.
  • Negotiating contracts, managing compliance with quality assurance processes, and monitoring institutional risk.
  • Representing the University at senior levels in interactions with government, institutions, and external stakeholders in key international markets.
  • Generating revenue by meeting income targets through strategic alliances and innovative approaches to student engagement.

What Makes an Ideal Candidate?

This role is designed for an accomplished leader with expertise in international education and commercial development. The ideal candidate possesses:

  • Proven success in transnational education (TNE), including building partnerships in diverse regions and navigating complex jurisdictions.
  • A commercial mindset with a history of developing new revenue streams and creating high-value ventures in professional or academic environments.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills to collaborate with government agencies, institutional leaders, and external partners.
  • Familiarity with academic quality assurance processes and the risks associated with international partnerships and student engagement.
  • Solid knowledge of international education markets, trends, and best practices.

The ability to balance the strategic vision with attention to operational detail is key in this role, as is confidence in working across diverse cultural and regulatory contexts.

Application Advice for International Applicants

If you are considering applying for this exciting leadership opportunity, here is some guidance from an international education perspective:

  1. Understand the University’s Global Ambitions:

Familiarise yourself with the University of Law’s programmes, partnerships, and target markets. Demonstrate your understanding of the institution’s priorities and your ability to foster new opportunities in global education.

  1. Show Your Cross-Cultural Leadership:

Highlight your transnational experience and ability to adapt to different cultural, legal, and regulatory landscapes-whether in Europe, Asia, the Americas, or the Middle East. Showcase any instances where you’ve successfully built relationships across diverse educational systems.

  1. Display Your Commercial and Strategic Expertise:

The role requires both academic awareness and business acumen. Provide examples of how you’ve managed projects that diversified revenue streams, negotiated contracts, or met income-related targets.

  1. Emphasise Collaboration and Team Leadership:

Describe how you have worked across departments or cross-functional teams (e.g., finance, marketing, legal, and academic divisions) to achieve shared strategic goals. Evidence of managing staff or teams is highly valuable.

  1. Research the UK Market & Right to Work Requirements:

If you’re an international applicant, ensure you meet the right to work criteria for the UK. The University of Law is not a licensed visa sponsor, so you’ll need existing eligibility to work in the UK. Familiarise yourself with the requirements via the UK Government’s guidelines for employers.

  1. Tailor Your References:

Strong references from your international or academic collaborations will strengthen your application. Choose referees who can vouch for your ability to operate at a strategic level with governmental bodies, universities, or significant private sector stakeholders.

Why Consider This Role?

In addition to a generous salary of £94,500 per annum, the role offers:

  • 30 days of annual leave.
  • A private medical scheme and life assurance.
  • Opportunities to develop and lead high-impact projects in global education.

Additionally, you’ll join a forward-thinking institution committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace that reflects its global student body.

Application Deadline: Interviews will take place during the week commencing 14th July 2025.
