The Director of Clinical Training (DCT) is responsible for overseeing the Office of Professional Training (OPT) at the university. Working under the guidance of the Clinical PhD and PsyD Program Directors, the DCT ensures the smooth functioning of the OPT. This includes securing and evaluating practicum placements, preparing students for the internship application process, and ensuring that sites meet the educational standards of the programs. The DCT’s roles and responsibilities include coordinating and overseeing all professional training processes, meeting with students, site supervisors, faculty, and program directors as needed, developing and administering trainings, problem solving, mediating as needed, and conducting program evaluation.
The starting salary for the Director of Clinical Training position is $80,000. The minimum qualifications for the position include a doctoral degree (PsyD or PhD) in clinical psychology from an APA accredited college or university, completion of an APA-accredited internship, experience in facilitating learning and knowledge of best practices in clinical training at the doctoral level, and program development, evaluation, or management experience. The candidate must also hold a valid clinical psychologist license in the State of California and possess strong skills in Microsoft Office, especially Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel. Other required skills include knowledge of graduate clinical psychology education and training, a commitment to high quality clinical training, the ability to establish and maintain collaborative relationships, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, demonstrated initiative and problem-solving abilities, and good supervisory skills.
The Director of Clinical Training’s duties and responsibilities include overseeing the OPT, coordinating Professional Training Committee meetings, maintaining relationships with practicum and APA internship sites, securing new practicum sites if needed, providing updates and addressing questions in student and faculty meetings, managing student field training clinical emergencies and referrals, collaborating with site Training Directors, overseeing the application processes, ensuring compliance with regulations, conducting program evaluation, and implementing improvement plans.
