- As the Primary Designated School Official (PDSO) and Responsible Officer (RO), Director ensures
University compliance with federal immigration regulations and oversees departmental operations that
ensure University compliance with SEVIS reporting requirements. Collaborates with the Office of the
General Counsel to handle urgent DHS subpoenas and requests for confidential student and faculty
data. Directly supervises Associate Director of SEVIS Compliance, who manages day-to-day aspects of
compliance function. - Researches, identifies, and implements best practices within the field of international education
to ensure that DePaul University is in the forefront of compliance efforts and provision of legal
advising services. Oversees federally mandated legal advising services in order to retain a current
population of approximately 2,400 F-1 and J-1 non-immigrant students and faculty. Directly
supervises Associate Director of Advising, who manages day-to-day aspects of advising function. - Director is responsible for the oversight of Form I-20 and Form DS-2019 issuance for the university
and meeting expected turn-around timelines for newly admitted students to apply for visas and
current students to apply for F1/J1 benefits. - In partnership with Global Engagement, the Director builds relationships with units throughout the
university and advocates for systems and services that improve the international student experience
and encourage their success. The Director may lead international student support initiatives,
advocate for resources, and conduct assessment of existing resources to help ensure there are no
systemic barriers to international student success. - Develops strategic plans for the operation, including overseeing fiscal administration of a $750,000
graduate scholarship endowment fund and an annual budget of $670,000. Conducts annual assessment of
department’s SEVIS compliance plan and provision of legal advising services and conducts
benchmarking. - Director is responsible for managing the relationship with the health insurance provider for
international students and ensuring that effective processes are in place to ensure that all F-1 and
J-1 students have adequate health coverage. - Supervises four positions and manages a staff of 10 team members. Directly supervises the following:
Associate Director – Advising; SEVIS Coordinator; and SEVIS Compliance Analyst - Manages operation that directly affects retention of approximately 2,400 international students and
scholars. Administers $750,000 graduate scholarship endowment fund. Oversees annual budget of
$670,000.
What You’ll Need:
- A masters degree in an appropriate field or an equivalent combination of training and experience is
necessary. A minimum of 6-8 years of experience in international education management is required.
Designated School Official (DSO) experience as well as extensive knowledge of U.S. federal laws
governing non-immigrant students and exchange faculty is essential. - Minimum of 3-5 years of supervisory and management experience
- Experience in international student advising; knowledge of F-1 and J-1 immigration regulations; an
understanding of international student recruitment trends and/or higher education enrollment
management; - Strong written and oral communication skills; demonstrated familiarity with and sensitivity to
cultural diversity concerns and anti-racism; - Effective leadership and employee management
- Demonstrated experience in using data to design and develop process improvements
- Strong computer skills including familiarity with SEVIS.
- U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Residency required.
- Preferred qualifications: relevant international education experience, such as international study or
work; knowledge of the H-1B visa process; experience in retention programming and assessment. - Proficient computer skills, ability to use MS Office. Experience with PeopleSoft, SEVIS and Terra
Dotta is preferred.
