Position: Senior International Officer (SIO) – Director of International Office – Hampton University Faculty

As the Senior International Officer (SIO), you will provide supervisory support for the International Office staff, including the Assistant Director, the Immigration Specialist, and the Administrative Assistant. The SIO is responsible for overseeing international programming within the field of International Education.

Job Duties:

– Ensure adherence to policies of flagship organizations and governing bodies related to international education, such as NAFSA: The Association of International Educators, The Forum on Education Abroad, the Department of Education, the Department of State, and the Department of Homeland Security.
– Support the campus community in the process of internationalization as outlined by the HU Strategic Plan 2023-2033, with guidance from the Assistant Provost for Academic Affairs.
– Act as the primary point of contact for global risk management and safety planning, compliance with Clery reporting for international programming, and digital emergency management tools in coordination with the Overseas Security Advisory Council (OSAC).
– Oversee and manage the unit’s budgets, including both soft and hard funds, by tracking spending.
– Coordinate visits from international visitors in collaboration with the Offices of the Executive Vice President and Provost and the President, and act as a host.
– Fulfill the role of Primary Designated School Official for F visas and Responsible Officer for J visas within the SEVIS system.
– Collaborate with units and academic departments to create and design exchange and partner agreements, raising awareness of campus internationalization.
– Coordinate faculty participation in the Fulbright program and serve as the institution’s Fulbright Scholar Liaison for the Institute of International Education (IIE).
– Serve as the primary point of contact for international organizations such as The Institute of International Education (IIE).
– Collaborate with other SIOs and Directors of international units across minority-serving institutions and majority-serving institutions to increase partnerships and grant funding options.
– Design and improve international student recruitment plans in collaboration with the Dean of Admissions and the Department of Athletics.
– Support the Immigration Specialist in engaging with HU Alumni Affairs for international alumni.
– Support the Assistant Director in engaging with HU Alumni Affairs for study abroad students.
– Act as spokesperson and/or presenter for national and international conferences on international education initiatives and engagement.

Qualifications:

– Master’s degree in a related field, or a bachelor’s degree with relevant experience.

Requirements:

– Ability to function and multi-task in a fast-paced environment with students, staff, faculty, and stakeholders from the United States and various countries around the world.
– Ability to maintain a heavy meeting and travel schedule.
– Experience with grant-writing.
