**Job Description**
**Job Summary:**
The Director of Academic Advising plays a pivotal role under general supervision, managing and coordinating academic advising services and programs for both new and returning students at Texas A&M International University (TAMIU).
**Essential Duties and Responsibilities:**
– Lead and manage academic advising services and programs for new, returning, and transfer students.
– Develop and update an Advisor’s Handbook with standardized policies and guidelines grounded in best practices.
– Supervise advising centers to ensure alignment with the College Deans’ Offices, addressing the unique needs and interests of their constituents optimally.
– Collaborate with Deans and Advisors to promote involvement in decision-making and enhance teamwork and team building.
– Align advising strategies with various campus entities and programs to bolster student success and retention.
– Provide professional development on best practices to advisors, particularly regarding retention.
– Offer academic advising services directly to students.
– Develop, implement, and evaluate office policies, procedures, and technology pertinent to advising.

**Minimum Requirements:**
**Education:**
– Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
**Experience:**
– Ten years of related experience in higher education.
– At least three years of supervisory experience in an academic advising setting.
– A combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities may be considered.
**Knowledge and Abilities:**
**Knowledge of:**
– Word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
– Budget management and strategic planning.
– Banner or similar systems used in higher education.
**Ability to:**
– Multitask and work cooperatively with others.
– Exhibit strong verbal and written communication skills.
**Licensing / Professional Certification:** None.
**Physical Requirements:**
– General office environment. Reasonable accommodations will be provided to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
**Supervision of Others:**
This position typically supervises employees.
**Other Requirements:**
– Evening and weekend work may be necessary.
– Position requires on-campus, in-person interactions and maintaining a regular attendance schedule in the workplace.
**Salary:** $76,000 annually
