Job Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated and talented individual to join us as a Principal Research Associate with the added responsibility of serving as the Deputy Director of the Minderoo Centre for Technology and Democracy (MCTD) at the University of Cambridge. This pivotal role is integral to shaping a nascent field of research focused on the intersection of technology and democracy—an area poised to become one of the defining challenges of our era. The position is supported by the Minderoo Foundation and is based within Cambridge’s esteemed Centre for Research in the Arts, Social Sciences, and Humanities (CRASSH).

When applying from an international education perspective, it’s important to showcase how your global insights and experiences can enhance the Centre’s mission. Here’s how to strengthen your application:

  1. Highlight Your International Experience: In your CV and cover letter, emphasize any international research projects, collaborations, or studies that demonstrate your ability to engage with diverse perspectives and contribute to global discourse.
  1. Tailor Your Research Output: Carefully select and highlight two research publications that not only match the Centre’s objectives but also reflect your international expertise. This can underscore your potential to bring a broader, more varied understanding to the research team.
  1. Demonstrate Funding Success: Provide examples of how you’ve successfully secured research funding, particularly if you have experience obtaining international grants or participating in multinational research endeavors.
  1. Cultural Adaptability: Address your preparedness to adapt to and thrive within the UK educational and cultural context. If you have prior experience working or studying in the UK or any country with similar academic structures, be sure to include this in your application.
  1. Work Eligibility: Ensure that you meet the UK work and residency eligibility requirements and mention any relevant visas or rights to work you may already possess.
  1. Referees with Global Reach: Choose referees who can speak to your international impact and competence in cross-cultural research environments. Their testimonials can substantiate your contributions to both local and global research communities.
