Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) is seeking nominations and applications for the position of Dean of the Sue and Radcliffe Killam Library. The Dean will be responsible for overseeing all operations of the library, including personnel management, resource allocation, facility management, user services, interlibrary cooperation, automated systems, planning, budgeting, statistics, publicity, marketing, and public relations.
The ideal candidate will provide visionary leadership for the Killam Library and exhibit strong management skills in personnel matters, such as staffing, performance appraisals, and employee recognition or discipline. The Dean will also promote affirmative actions and equal opportunity in recruitment, selection, training, development, and promotion.
Additionally, the selected candidate will be expected to conduct a needs assessment and develop a plan for the selection, acquisition, cataloging, classification, and circulation of library media materials, as well as establish collaborative library agreements. They should also have experience in seeking external funding and writing grant proposals to enhance library programs, facilities, and collections.
The Dean will coordinate the development and implementation of library programs and services to meet the diverse needs of students and faculty, including those delivered through various methods and venues. They will also play a vital role in developing, interpreting, and implementing policies and procedures to ensure efficient daily operations and guide long-term quality improvement.
Building relationships and partnerships within the library, campus, community, and other institutions will be a priority for the Dean, as well as integrating emerging technologies, supporting faculty librarians’ scholarly activity, participating in resource-sharing and library consortia, and collaborating with Texas A&M University System library leaders.
The Dean will be responsible for library budget preparation, fiscal management, and facilities planning to provide optimal working and learning environments. Other duties may be assigned as necessary.
The required qualifications for the position include a Master’s degree in Library Science (or equivalent degree) from an American Library Association-accredited program and a proven track record of success in managing libraries in an academic setting.
Preferred qualifications include eight years of related experience in a library environment, including managerial experience. It is also preferred that the candidate holds a second Master’s or advanced degree, Ph.D., or equivalent degree in a related field, has experience in library advocacy, and expertise in integrating technology and digital resources for information organization and access.
Knowledge of electronic resources, library technologies, and automated library systems, as well as demonstrated success in strategic planning and assessment of library programs, operations, and services, is highly desirable. The ideal candidate should also possess the ability to foster team building, accountability, professional growth, trust, and productivity.
Experience working with diverse academic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of students, faculty, and staff is required, and bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is preferred.
