Location: London based hub – with hybrid working in the UK

Job Role: Communications Manager

The Communications Manager plays a crucial role in the Public Affairs and Communications (PAC) team at ODI, based in London. They are responsible for developing innovative communications strategies and implementing a dynamic convening program to engage target audiences with ODI’s research and insights.

This role will play a key role in ensuring that decision-making at influential international forums, such as the World Economic Forum Annual Meetings and COP summits, is informed by ODI’s analysis. The Communications Manager acts as the linchpin within the organization, leading a team of communications professionals to transform strategic priorities into impactful campaigns.

Key Responsibilities:

– Collaborating with progressive funders and strategic partners to raise awareness of priority areas, such as gender justice and the climate emergency.
– Developing communication strategies and plans for key projects aligned with ODI’s institutional priorities.
– Leading ODI’s convening program, including events and the Think Change podcast, coordinating with the public affairs and communications team to meet deadlines.
– Supporting the delivery of high-quality events at major international summits.
– Managing a team of three Senior Communications Officers and providing guidance to communications staff embedded in ODI’s programs.
– Playing an active role in the management team of public affairs and communications.

Qualifications:

– Proficient in integrated communications planning with a track record of successful public affairs and communications strategies.
– Previous experience in organizing high-level events, preferably on an international scale.
– Creative mindset and ability to convene diverse perspectives across various formats.
– Excellent writing skills to tailor communication for different audiences, from viral copy to correspondence with dignitaries.
– Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
– Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with colleagues of all levels and cultures.
– Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
– Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively.
– Experience in global affairs and additional language skills are desirable but not essential.
