Job Overview:

The Oxford Respiratory Trials Unit (ORTU) at Churchill Hospital is seeking a dedicated Trial Manager to join their team temporarily to cover for maternity leave. This pivotal role is integral to the planning and efficient management of various studies within the unit, ensuring that both the setup and ongoing development of these clinical trials run smoothly. As a Trial Manager, you will work closely with the Senior Trial Manager to support and coordinate with a diverse team, including Chief Investigators and Trial Assistants. Your responsibilities will include obtaining necessary regulatory approvals, organizing team meetings, and maintaining overall oversight of study conduct and performance. This position provides flexibility for hybrid working, allowing you to split your work between the office and home, in accordance with department guidelines.

Advice for International Applicants:

If you’re considering applying from an international education perspective, here are some key pieces of advice:

  1. Educational and Professional Background: Ensure that your academic qualifications align with the UK standards. A degree in a relevant subject, or equivalent international experience in managing complex clinical trials, is essential. Highlight any global or multi-site project management experience you have, which would be particularly relevant given the scope of work at ORTU.
  1. Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarize yourself with the UK’s specific regulatory and governance requirements for clinical trials, including ethical, MHRA, and R&D approvals. Experience in these processes is crucial, and any international equivalent experience should be clearly stated.
  1. Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills are vital. Demonstrate your ability to work effectively across different professional and organizational boundaries, particularly if you have experience in multicultural or international project environments.
  1. IT Competency: Proficiency in common IT applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook is necessary. Emphasize any experience with these tools, especially if used in project or data management contexts.
  1. Application Materials: When preparing your application, ensure your CV and supporting statement clearly articulate your relevant experience and skills, particularly any international experience or unique perspectives you bring.
  1. Cultural Adaptability: If you are relocating to the UK, demonstrate your adaptability to new environments, which is crucial for integrating into a new workplace culture.
