The position involves overseeing a team of 8 senior staff in the corporate services portfolio. It is a full-time role with potential travel requirements within the UK to collaborate with partner organizations. HDR UK is a national institute and operates throughout the country. The salary range for this position is £145,000 – £151,000.
As the Chief Operating Officer (COO), you will be a crucial member of the Senior Leadership Team at HDR UK, reporting directly to the Director. The COO will play a significant role in various areas such as business strategy, capacity building, communications, finance & risk, Health & Safety, and HR.
This position requires strong strategic and organizational skills, as well as the ability to think creatively and provide solutions to problems. The COO will support and advise the Director in their leadership and management of HDR UK. Working closely with the Director and other senior executives, the COO will demonstrate strong leadership and operational skills to help scale the institute during its next phase of development.
The COO will also have an external presence, establishing and maintaining critical connections to fulfill the Director’s vision and develop HDR UK at local, national, and international levels. This will involve networking with other research organizations and key stakeholders such as the public, the NHS, and industry.
Key responsibilities for the COO include:
– Playing a leading role in shaping the organization’s strategy and aligning operational delivery with that strategy.
– Overseeing strategic financial and resource planning to ensure effective financial management and sustainability.
– Contributing to multi-cycle delivery planning, reporting, monitoring, and operational review.
– Coordinating all external corporate reporting.
– Attending board meetings and managing interactions with funding partners.
– Ensuring compliance with laws and regulations in all activities and operations.
– People management, including coordinating equality, diversity, and inclusion efforts, staff management and progression, and adherence to organizational values.
– Responsibility for implementing and aligning policies with the organization’s purpose.
