SIT is seeking center directors across various thematic areas including development studies, sustainability studies, social sciences, cultural studies, health science, environmental science, marine biology, conservation biology, earth sciences, international relations, political science, sociology, history, religion, European Studies, or other related disciplines.

Position Overview:

The Center Director (CD) will lead programs, ensuring academic excellence, operational efficiency, and comprehensive student services. This role involves managing a diverse portfolio of experiential learning programs that align with SIT’s mission. You will work through local employment contracts when required, ensuring compliance with local labor and employment laws.

Responsibilities:

  • Academic Program Management: Design and oversee curricula, teach one course per semester, and guide student research projects and internships, ensuring they meet SIT’s high academic and experiential learning standards.
  • Student Services: Offer cross-cultural guidance and academic advising, collaborating with SIT’s Office of Student Health, Safety, and Well-Being for student welfare.
  • Operations & Compliance: Oversee center operations, manage finances, foster local partnerships, and ensure adherence to local laws and SIT policies.
  • Human Resources: Recruit and support faculty and staff, while promoting a collaborative and inclusive workplace.
  • Health, Safety & Security: Implement SIT’s health and safety protocols, act as the primary contact for student emergencies, and maintain contingency plans.
  • Community Engagement: Develop partnerships with local organizations, integrate community-based learning in the curriculum, and promote SIT’s mission.
  • Marketing & Representation: Contribute to SIT promotional materials and participate in conferences and professional meetings as required.

Work Environment:

Candidates must be prepared to remain in-country during the program, being available outside regular hours for emergencies. Programs may include urban and remote locations, sometimes requiring physical exertion such as driving and hiking.

Qualifications:

  • Terminal degree in a related field
  • At least 3 years of experience in academic program management or international higher education
  • Fluency in English and local languages
  • Demonstrated commitment to student well-being
  • Legal right to work and reside in the respective country
  • Familiarity with the local context
