As part of the Finance and Procurement Directorate, the Procurement Team significantly contributes to the University’s wider strategic goals, ensuring efficient and effective support for Schools and Directorates.

We are seeking an exceptional individual to join us as a Category Manager within the team. Reporting directly to the Head of Procurement, the successful candidate will manage the corporate category of spend, develop and deliver category strategies, identify opportunities for savings and benefits, and align outcomes with the University’s strategic aims. This includes analyzing spend, awarding and managing subsequent contracts. The Corporate Category Manager role is based in the Procurement Office in the Tower Building. The University follows a hybrid working policy, with staff required to be on campus two days per week and work from home three days per week.

**Key Responsibilities**:

– Create and maintain a category strategy that identifies benefits opportunities within the corporate category of spend. Manage subsequent tender processes from evaluation to contract award in consultation with Schools and Directorates, in compliance with University policies and procedures.
– Develop and maintain an in-depth understanding and up-to-date knowledge of markets, products, and suppliers within the relevant category of spend. Provide necessary advice to Schools and Directorates.
– Engage with budget holders and other key stakeholders across the University, ensuring compliance with both internal and external procurement requirements.
– Collaborate with the Head of Procurement and other Procurement team members to deliver specific strategic aims, such as Sustainable Procurement and the development of internal policies and procedures.
– Undertake any other duties relevant to the role.

**Who We’re Looking For**:

– Fully or part-qualified, working towards full membership of the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (MCIPS).
– Demonstrated procurement achievement and experience in the public or private sector (experience in Higher Education would be advantageous).
– Experience in detailed spend analysis and category management.
– Ability to explain Procurement-related issues to a non-Procurement audience.
– Knowledge of National and Scottish procurement law.
