OVERVIEW The Specialist III ā International Student Specialist role at Sam Houston State University supports the institutionās commitment to global engagement and international student success. Based within the Global Engagement Center under the Division of Academic Affairs, this position focuses on advanced coordination and compliance responsibilities for international students and scholars. The role is central to ensuring a welcoming, compliant, and enriching experience for individuals on F and J visas. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES – Serve as the main point-of-contact for F-visa and J-visa students and scholars – Serve as a Designated School Official (DSO) and Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) – Maintain SEVIS records for international students and scholars – Ensure regulatory compliance related to F and J visa regulations – Coordinate orientations, seminars, and workshops for international students and scholars – Support cultural immersion programming – Support international recruitment activities – Support admissions processes related to international students – Support international partnerships – Support campus engagement related to global initiatives REQUIREMENTS WHY THIS ROLE MATTERS International students and scholars rely on knowledgeable, detail-oriented professionals to navigate complex immigration regulations while adjusting to academic and cultural life in the United States.
