**Job Summary:**
The Athletic Trainer, under supervision, is responsible for preventing, caring for, and treating athlete injuries. This includes possessing a strong understanding of injury patterns and contemporary athletic training principles. The role involves collecting samples for drug testing and supervising and educating student athletic trainers.
**Essential Duties and Responsibilities:**
– Evaluate, treat, and rehabilitate injuries of TAMIU athletes.
– Perform taping, bracing, and preparation of student athletes for practices and events for assigned sports.
– Provide supervision and attendance at practices and events to ensure the safety and emergency care of student athletes.
– Travel with assigned teams as necessary.
– Collaborate with Athletic Trainers on meal and supplement planning for student athletes.
– Maintain comprehensive charting and record-keeping of student athlete injuries using the latest systems and protocols.
– Coordinate and consult with physicians, student athletes, and medical facilities on healthcare matters.
– Consult with coaches and parents regarding athlete healthcare.
– Assist in supervising student athletic trainers’ education and sport scheduling.
– Maintain professional licenses and certifications.
– Oversee and manage the athletic training room, equipment, and supply inventory.

**Additional Responsibilities:**
– Contribute to a comprehensive public relations program.
– Ensure compliance with NCAA regulations.
– Assist with the operations of sports camps or clinics.
– Support department fund-raising events.
– Perform other related duties as assigned.
**Minimum Requirements:**
– **Education:** Bachelor’s degree.
– **Experience:** One year of full-time experience or three years of part-time, paid experience as a student trainer.
**Knowledge and Abilities:**
– Proficient in word processing, spreadsheet, and database software.
– General knowledge of relevant rules and drug testing procedures.
– Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
– Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
– Possess medical and first aid skills, including joint taping and physical therapy capabilities.
**Licensing / Professional Certification:**
– Must obtain a State of Texas License to practice Athletic Training within six months of employment.

**Supervision of Others:**
– This position generally does not involve supervising employees.
**Other Requirements:**
– May require work outside standard hours, including weekends and holidays.
