Job Description:
Job Summary:
The Athletic Trainer, under supervision, is responsible for preventing, caring for, and treating injuries to athletes using knowledge of injury patterns and principles of athletic training. They also collect samples for drug testing and educate student athletic trainers.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
– Evaluate, treat, and rehabilitate injuries of TAMIU athletes
– Prepare student athletes for practice and games through taping, bracing, and other preparations
– Provide attendance and supervision for safety and emergency care of student athletes during practices and games
– Travel with assigned teams as directed
– Coordinate with other Athletic Trainers regarding meals and supplements for student athletes
– Maintain records of student athlete injuries
– Collaborate with physicians, medical facilities, coaches, and parents regarding student athlete health care
– Assist in the education and scheduling of student athletic trainers
– Maintain professional licenses and certifications
– Supervise and maintain the athletic training room, equipment, and supplies
Additional Responsibilities:
– Assist in implementing a comprehensive public relations program
– Ensure NCAA compliance
– Assist with the operations of sports camps or clinics
– Assist with department fund-raising events
– Perform other related duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements:
– Education: Bachelor’s degree
– Experience: One year full-time experience or three years part-time paid experience as a student trainer
Knowledge and Abilities:
– Proficient in word processing, spreadsheet, and database software
– General knowledge of rules
– Familiarity with drug testing procedures
– Ability to comprehend oral and written instructions
– Strong multitasking and teamwork skills
– Medical and first aid skills, including joint taping and physical therapy
Licensing/Professional Certification:
– Must obtain State of Texas License to practice Athletic Training within six months of employment
