The George Washington University, International Services Office

The George Washington University’s International Services Office (ISO) is responsible for facilitating international educational exchange through various services and programs. They are currently seeking an Associate Director, International Services, who will play a crucial role in managing and leading the international student and scholar services team. This position also offers the opportunity to work at a prestigious institution and may involve international travel.

Key Responsibilities:

– Reporting to the Assistant Provost of International Education, the Associate Director, International Services will serve as the second-in-command for international student and scholar services.
– They will supervise the international admissions processing team in the ISO and ensure compliance with F-1/F-2 and J-1/J-2 student requirements of the DHS SEVIS system. They will also provide support to meet SEVIS registration compliance deadlines.
– The Associate Director will offer guidance and interpretation on federal government policies and procedures related to international students and exchange visitor students, as well as their dependents.
– They will oversee coordination and collaboration with GW’s schools, colleges, and academic programs to effectively provide information, advice, and guidance on federal policies that govern the academic lives of international students.
– The Associate Director will deliver culturally appropriate support services to international students, including designing and administering training sessions, seminars, and workshops for International Student Advisors, other ISO staff, and international students.
– They will advise and assist international and exchange visitor students in matters such as visa issuance and renewal, cultural adjustment, maintenance of lawful non-immigrant status, federal academic requirements, employment in the U.S., and other issues regulated by the federal government.
– They will identify international students who may be at risk of academic difficulty and intervene by providing advice, assistance, referrals, and follow-up. They will also collaborate with faculty members and administrators to ensure academic progress and success.

In addition to these responsibilities, the Associate Director will perform other related duties as assigned. The position requires a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and 8 years of professional experience, or a Master’s degree in a relevant field and 6 years of professional experience. Preferred qualifications include a degree in a field related to international education and exchange or higher education administration, experience managing people and budgets, familiarity with immigration regulations and systems, demonstrated passion for international student advising programs, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and previous international travel or work experiences.
