Position Overview:
FIU’s Department of Finance, housed in the College of Business, invites applications for a non-tenure track Assistant Teaching Professor in Finance position starting Spring 2026. The position requires candidates to demonstrate exceptional teaching expertise, particularly in applied finance tools and methodologies.
Tips for International Applicants:
- Educational Credentials:
– The minimum qualification for this role is a Master’s degree in Finance or a related field, but applicants with a Doctorate in Finance will have a competitive edge.
– Ensure you have your qualifications evaluated if you obtained your degrees from institutions outside the United States. Services like World Education Services (WES) can help verify and convert credentials to meet U.S. standards.
- Showcase Diverse Teaching Experience:
– FIU values diversity in its curriculum and student body. If you have taught finance courses internationally or have experience incorporating global and multicultural perspectives into your teaching, be sure to highlight this in your application.
– Demonstrated experience teaching finance with tools such as Excel spreadsheets, Bloomberg terminals, @Risk, and Capital IQ is critical. Familiarity with these tools in varying contexts (e.g., cross-border finance, emerging markets) can strengthen your application.
- Professional Certifications:
– Certifications like CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) or CFP (Certified Financial Planner) are highly valued and align well with the position requirements. If you hold certifications obtained outside the U.S., specify their equivalence and international recognition to help the search committee understand their relevance.
- Language and Communication Skills:
– As FIU serves a diverse population, it is advantageous for applicants to demonstrate strong communication skills in English and potentially other languages. Highlight your ability to connect with students from varied cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
- Application Preparation:
– Curriculum Vitae (CV): Craft a CV that emphasizes your teaching experience, global projects, and professional certifications. Showcase any contributions you’ve made to international finance education or global business collaborations.
– Transcripts: Attach transcripts for all graduate degrees, including translations if your documents are not originally in English.
– Student Evaluations: Include detailed teaching evaluations that reflect your ability to engage students effectively. If you have experience teaching abroad, these evaluations will demonstrate your adaptability and international perspective.
- References:
– Provide at least three references who can attest to your teaching acumen, global outlook, and proficiency with finance tools. If possible, include reference letters from mentors or colleagues familiar with your work in international education environments.
- Professional Networks:
– If you’re relocating to the U.S., consider leveraging professional organizations such as the CFA Institute or college-level finance teaching networks to establish connections in Miami and beyond.
- Visa and Work Authorization:
– FIU is committed to diversity and inclusion but does not explicitly mention sponsorship in this posting. If you require visa sponsorship (e.g., H1B or O1), inquire early in the process about the timeline and requirements for international hires.
