Responsibilities Overview

Join the administrative team at the Center for Global Engagement, focusing on managing Special Programs. This role involves supervising approximately 160 international students during a 10-day immersive summer program at the Florida State University (FSU) campus, followed by six months of Academic Training at Walt Disney World (WDW). Responsibilities include aiding in program administration, conducting intercultural workshops, and providing ongoing student support throughout the spring, summer, and fall semesters. Additionally, this position involves teaching the Special Programs’ Applied Intercultural Communication course in the fall and the Global Citizenship Certificate course in the fall and/or spring.

Program Administration: Lead the FSU program application process in the spring, handling non-degree student admission, immunization compliance, program fee and insurance processing, and course registration. Collaborate with team members to plan and execute the summer program for three distinct groups on the FSU campus. Rotate responsibilities with peers during the 10-day on-campus events to maintain consistent program event coverage. Assist in interviewing student applicants recommended by partner universities when needed.

Instruction: Serve as the instructor of record for the Applied Intercultural Communication course for Special Programs during the fall semester, conducted while students are at WDW. This role requires monthly travel to WDW to facilitate in-person classes, in addition to reviewing and grading online discussions and assignments. Conduct a range of workshops during the summer intensive on the FSU campus to prepare students for a smooth cultural transition and success during their six-month academic training at WDW. Also, teach one three-credit Global Perspectives course in both the fall and spring semesters as required, which is part of the Global Citizenship Certificate for degree-seeking FSU students.

Student Support: Collaborate with team members to offer ongoing support to Special Programs students at FSU and during the Academic Training at WDW. Address student inquiries, concerns, and support requests via email, Teams, or phone. Direct students to appropriate resources and follow internal protocols for documenting and communicating student issues with fellow team members.

Attend key events and programs organized by the Center for Global Engagement (CGE) and the Dean of Student Affairs (DSA), participate in CGE meetings, and contribute to committees.

Qualifications

– Ph.D. or Ed.D. (or near completion) in Global Studies, Intercultural Communication, or a related discipline from an accredited institution.
– Experience teaching at the college or university level.
– Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Driver’s License from Florida or Georgia prior to hiring.
– Capability to travel between Tallahassee and Orlando for three days each month from summer through fall to teach internship students at Walt Disney World.
– Flexibility to work non-standard hours, including some weekends and evenings during the summer.
– Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident in compliance with federal regulations.

Preferred Qualifications

– Experience working with international students.
– Experience living, working, or studying abroad.
– Background in program management.
– Understanding of student affairs principles and experience offering student support beyond classroom settings.
– Strong capability to work effectively within a team environment.
