The Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva, Switzerland, is accepting applications for a tenure-track, full-time Assistant Professor position in International History and Politics, with a focus on contemporary environmental history and politics. The position is set to commence on September 1, 2025, or at a mutually agreed-upon date.
Applicants should possess a PhD by the time of their appointment. The Department of International History and Politics (IHP) welcomes candidates with diverse geographical, methodological, and conceptual perspectives, provided they can demonstrate outstanding research capabilities, our primary hiring criterion. Applicants must also illustrate how their work aligns with the research and teaching priorities of both the Institute and the IHP Department. While fostering strong disciplinary foundations, candidates should be open to interdisciplinary engagement.
The appointed candidate will join the IHP Department, engage in research, teach at the postgraduate level, and oversee master’s dissertations and PhD theses within the IHP. They will also contribute to teaching and supervision in the Institute’s interdisciplinary Master in International and Development Studies (MINT) program.
Instruction at the Geneva Graduate Institute can be conducted in either English or French. Although initial French proficiency is not required, the selected candidate is expected to quickly acquire at least a passive understanding of the language.
