**Job Description:**
Texas A&M International University (TAMIU), part of the Texas A&M University System, invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Biology, commencing in Fall 2025. Located in Laredo, Texas—a dynamic, bicultural city with a population of approximately 250,000—TAMIU is a Hispanic Serving Institution with a student body of over 8,000. This is a full-time, tenure-track position over a 9-month period. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching both introductory and advanced courses in the biology program, including Evolution, and will establish an independent research program involving undergraduate and graduate students. New hires will benefit from a reduced teaching load to facilitate the development of their research agenda, and course buyouts are available for faculty who secure grant funding. Participation in departmental, college, and university service activities is also expected. This role requires regular on-campus presence and face-to-face engagement.
The Department of Biology and Chemistry at TAMIU offers BA, BS, and MS degrees in Biology, as well as a BS degree in Chemistry, currently serving around 800 undergraduate majors and 30 master’s students.
**Required Qualifications:**
Applicants must hold a doctorate in biology or a related field, specializing in evolution. ABD candidates will be considered but must complete their doctorate prior to the start date. The position seeks individuals with a strong dedication to teaching and developing a research program that engages undergraduate and graduate students. Applicants with expertise in entomology, invertebrate zoology, and/or population genetics are highly encouraged to apply. The ability to secure external funding is advantageous.
