Through its mission, the university aims to equip students with the skills they need to make a positive impact on their communities and address contemporary social issues. Cultural diversity is a core competency of the university’s training programs, which is integrated into courses, field placements, and the diverse makeup of the student body and faculty.

The Master of Arts in Clinical Counseling (MACC) Program, part of the California School of Professional Psychology (CSPP) at Alliant International University, emphasizes clinical competence, a strength-based approach to wellness and resilience, social justice advocacy, cross-cultural competence, and personal growth. The MACC Program is accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) and aligns with the standards and guidelines set by CACREP in 2016. The program also has a chapter, Alpha Iota Upsilon of Chi Sigma Iota, an international honors society in counseling.

The MACC Program prepares mental health professionals at the master’s level to be competent counselors who can address a range of cognitive, mental, and emotional issues, such as personal growth, adjustment issues, psychosocial and environmental stressors, substance abuse, crisis, and trauma. The focus of the program is on promoting resilience, wellness, and prevention rather than pathology. The duties and responsibilities of the faculty member include facilitating learning through classroom and distance learning, curriculum coordination and planning, mentoring and advising students, and conducting research and scholarship. They are also expected to engage in service to the university, community, and profession through activities such as hiring and evaluating faculty, participating in curriculum development and program improvement, and contributing their expertise to organizations and governmental entities.
