**Assistant or Associate Professor of Bilingual Education and TESOL**
FIU’s Department of Teaching and Learning, part of the School of Education and Human Development within the College of Arts, Sciences & Education, invites applications for an Assistant or Associate Professor in Bilingual Education and TESOL. This tenure-track position, starting in Fall 2025, spans 9 months.
We are looking for candidates who address crucial national and international topics such as language and identity, gender and culture, peace linguistics, language equity, inclusive teaching methods, translanguaging, raciolinguistics, and the intersection of language with technology and media, including artificial intelligence. The ideal candidate will engage in active research, seek external funding, publish scholarly work, present at professional conferences, advise doctoral students, teach various courses, participate in program leadership, and collaborate with local schools and districts.
**Primary Responsibilities:**
– Lead program initiatives
– Publish in respected, peer-reviewed journals
– Seek external funding
– Present at both academic and practitioner conferences
– Advise and mentor graduate students, including serving on dissertation committees and promoting research, teaching, and community-engaged scholarship
– Teach undergraduate, Master’s, and Ph.D. courses in various formats (face-to-face, blended, and asynchronously online)
– Contribute service to the program, department, college, university, community, and profession
**Required Qualifications:**
– Ph.D./Ed.D. in TESOL, Bilingual Education, Applied Linguistics, Second Language Studies, or closely related field by the time of appointment
– Expertise in TESOL and/or bilingual/dual language education
– A scholarly activity record suitable for Assistant or Associate Professor level, including academic publications and securing external funding
– Demonstrated excellence in teaching and/or mentoring in higher education
– Experience as a PreK-12 TESOL/bilingual educator
– Evidence of collaboration with faculty, students, and other stakeholders
**Preferred Qualifications:**
– Proven program leadership skills
– Proficiency in a non-English language
– Successful track record in obtaining external funding
– Experience in designing and implementing new courses
– Teaching experience in PreK-12 dual language, bilingual, or world language education settings
– Expertise in translanguaging and/or raciolinguistics
– Experience teaching in multiple formats (face-to-face, hybrid, online)
– Certification in dual language education, TESOL/ESL, or bilingual education
– Knowledge of language education policy for PreK-12 multilingual learners in the U.S. and beyond
