The University of Illinois Chicago’s Office of International Services is looking to hire an Assistant Director of International Services. This role involves managing international services and offering guidance to international faculty and staff, as well as consulting with academic management, all under minimal supervision.

**Key Responsibilities:**

*Operations and Administration*

– Mentor and train international services advising staff, overseeing their assignments, goals, problem-solving, and team development.
– Supervise immigration support services for the university’s international employee community.
– Evaluate the effectiveness of existing programs and policies, and develop new ones to ensure regulatory compliance and operational efficiency.
– Act as the main point of contact with external organizations like the Department of Homeland Security, Social Security Administration, Department of Labor, Department of Motor Vehicles, and the Department of State.
– Ensure compliance with employment-based immigration regulations.
– Review, prepare, and interpret immigration documents, letters, and regulations for hiring international staff and faculty.
– Handle the preparation and filing of H-1B, E-3, TN, O-1, and employment-based permanent residency petitions.

*Internal Consulting*

– Provide guidance to academic department management, staff, and faculty on immigration regulations and procedures.
– Offer advice to international staff and faculty on issues related to immigration status, including visa procedures, legal status maintenance, employment, status extensions, cultural and financial needs, and travel regulations.

*Activities and Programs*

– Manage the creation of orientation programs, immigration seminars, workshops, and social events.

*Training & Staff Management*

– Plan, assign, and review work to meet group objectives.
– Recruit, train, develop, and manage staff to ensure a qualified team is in place.
– Undertake other related duties and participate in special projects as required.

**Qualifications:**

*Minimum Qualifications*

– A Bachelor’s Degree in social sciences, humanities, or a related field.
– At least five years of relevant experience.
– Comprehensive knowledge of immigration laws, regulations, and procedures.
– Eligibility to meet USDHS’s Designated School Official (F-1 program) and U.S. Department of State’s J-1 Visitor Program Alternate Responsible Officer requirements.
– Familiarity with the Department of Homeland Security’s SEVIS and the Department of Labor’s FLAG systems.
– Strong leadership, management, and cross-cultural communication skills.

*Preferred Qualifications*

– A Master’s degree in higher education, international studies, or a related field.
– Understanding of H-1B, TN, LPR, O-1, and J-1 processes.
– Proficient analytical skills with the ability to synthesize and comprehend various regulations, and solve complex immigration issues.
