Company Purpose:

The Assistant Director of International Student Services at Knox College is responsible for providing comprehensive support services to international students, ensuring their successful transition to the college and the United States. This includes providing immigration advising, cultural adjustment assistance, and programming support.

Key Responsibilities:

– Serve as a Designated School Official (DSO).
– Assist in processing SEVIS related applications and requests from students, as well as reviewing, updating, and maintaining student records and issuing immigration documents.
– Provide initial advisement on available programs and services to students and refer them to specialized advising and support sources when needed.
– Assist students through one-on-one meetings, workshops, and electronic communication.
– Collaborate with campus partners on special projects involving student engagement and support for international students.
– Provide administrative support for office organization and programs, including international student orientation and procedure development.
– Demonstrate cross-cultural sensitivity, effective communication skills, leadership, adaptability, and extensive knowledge of F non-immigrant regulations and SEVIS.
– Offer guidance and support to international students on various issues such as personal, financial needs, academic matters, immigration, health insurance, health care, travel, taxes, and financial aid.
– Monitor international student progress each term to ensure compliance with regulations.
– Regularly process the import and export of student records to SEVIS from the information management system and maintain data integrity.
– Assist in planning and facilitating international student programs, such as orientation, workshops, new student check-ins, and seminars.
– Participate in a campus-wide duty rotation and respond to after-hour student and/or college emergencies as needed.
– Serve as an instructor or co-instructor for IDIS 130, Knox College’s student leadership course.
– Assist in planning the Intensive English Language Program (IELP).
– Perform other duties and serve on committees as assigned.

Qualifications:

– Bachelor’s degree required.
– 2-5 years of experience in student/scholar immigration issues and higher education administration.
– Previous/current responsibility for interpreting and documenting institutional practice or policy regarding F immigration matters.
– Demonstration of establishing and/or delivering a robust training and professional development plan for staff working with international students.
– A combination of education and relevant experience that demonstrates comparable knowledge may be considered.
