**Job Summary:**

The Assistant Director of International Services plays a key role in managing F-1 and J-1 immigration responsibilities for the university. This includes interpreting and signing necessary immigration documents for school transfers, extensions of stay, employment, academic/practical training, re-entry, and changes in immigration status. The position also involves reviewing and approving I-20 and DS-2019 form requests, overseeing student record maintenance, and conducting data analysis as needed. This role provides both individual and group advising to international students and scholars on a range of issues, including immigration, academics, and personal matters. Additionally, the position supports international admissions and aids in the planning and implementation of orientation programs for new international students and scholars. The Assistant Director actively participates in welcoming activities, check-in processes, and orientation sessions to facilitate students’ adjustment to both the university and the U.S.

**Duties & Essential Job Functions:**

1. Aids in the planning and execution of orientation programs for incoming international students and scholars. This includes preparing pre-arrival information, and taking part in welcome events, check-ins, and orientation sessions to help students adjust to the university and U.S. life.
2. Monitors the retention of international students at TCU, collaborating with campus partners to enhance student success through programming focused on skill and career development.
3. Offers guidance and support to international and exchange visitor students on visa issues, cultural adaptation, personal matters, maintaining lawful non-immigrant status, compliance with federal academic requirements, and U.S. employment regulations.
4. Identifies students at risk of academic challenges, such as suspension or withdrawal, and intervenes by providing assistance, referrals, and follow-ups. This includes collaborating with faculty and administrators to ensure student success.
5. Maintains confidential files and suggests changes to practices and policies regarding data and record-keeping when appropriate.
6. Performs other related duties as assigned.

**Required Education & Experience:**

– Master’s degree in a relevant field.
– 4 years of relevant professional experience.

**Preferred Education & Experience:**

– Experience in advising international students and scholars (F, J, H-1B) at higher education institutions.
– Bilingual skills.
– Experience with international travel, study, and/or work.

**Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:**

– Proficiency in written and verbal communication skills appropriate for a multicultural, intergenerational environment where English may not be the first language.
– Competency in Microsoft Office, PeopleSoft, Slate, or other student management systems.
– Familiarity with Terra Dotta or similar tracking systems to comply with DHS Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS).
– Capacity to work effectively in a cross-cultural environment.
– Ability to thrive in a complex, fast-paced setting.
– Skill in managing a large workload and balancing multiple responsibilities.
– Commitment to client confidentiality and a strong service orientation.
– Flexibility to work daytime, evening, and weekend hours.

– Clear enunciation for effective communication.
– Hearing ability for verbal communication via phone and in-person interactions.
– Manual dexterity for typing, writing, and other necessary tasks.
– Ability to lift and move objects up to 10 lbs.

– The work setting is indoors, sedentary, and may involve schedule changes or variable work hours.
