Assistant Director of Global Programs & Initiatives

Main duties:
Join us in our mission to promote global diversity learning at Massachusetts Maritime Academy! As the Assistant Director of Global Initiatives, you will be responsible for overseeing important aspects of international education such as international student support services and study abroad opportunities. Working closely with faculty, staff, and students, you will help the Academy reach its goals of enriching global learning and intercultural competence. Your responsibilities will include supporting the needs of international students from their arrival to their graduation, managing F-1/J-1 advising and compliance, and facilitating faculty-led study abroad experiences. Additionally, you will organize engaging events and programs that celebrate the diversity of cultures and nationalities represented at the Academy. You will also assist the Director of the CAPT Paul Cuffe Center for Inclusion in managing the Overseas Program Advisory Council (OPAC) to ensure the implementation of best practices in international education on campus. As part of your role, you will have the opportunity to create new study abroad experiences, exchange programs, and international recruitment pathways in alignment with the Academy’s mission to promote global diversity. Traveling to existing and potential study abroad sites will also be part of your responsibilities. Furthermore, you will work towards increasing study abroad opportunities for first-generation/Pell-eligible students. Lastly, you will contribute to the department’s broader goals of promoting diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging, all while striving for Inclusive Excellence at the Academy.
Qualifications and requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree plus relevant experience in higher education
- Demonstrated cultural competence and experience in international education, diversity, equity, and inclusion
- Experience in advising/mentoring or student support programs
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, multifaceted environment with a flexible schedule
- Ability to work occasional nights, weekends, and travel internationally, as required
- Strong team-oriented attitude and commitment to inclusive excellence
- General knowledge of Microsoft Office suite and database management systems
- A valid driver’s license
Preferred qualifications:
- Master’s Degree in education, international education, counseling, psychology, or related field
- 3-5 years of experience in international education
- Fluency or proficiency in an additional language(s) (preferred but not limited to Spanish, Portuguese, Creole, or Mandarin)
- Prior experience in study abroad, international student services, and/or working in a global/multicultural setting
- Previous experience as a Designated School Official (DSO) and/or Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) and familiarity with F-1 and J-1 rules and regulations as set by SEVP and Department of State guidelines
