Job Opportunity: Assistant Director for International Student and Scholar Services
Are you passionate about supporting international students and scholars through their educational journey in the U.S.? Washington State University (WSU), a prominent land-grant university with campuses across Washington state, is seeking an Assistant Director for International Student and Scholar Services. This position plays a critical role in navigating immigration regulations and supporting the international community at WSU.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leadership & Support: Supervise student advisors and front desk staff, providing immigration counseling and holistic support to international students.
- Immigration Expertise: Coordinate non-immigrant petitions, and ensure compliance with F, J, and H-1B visa regulations.
- Communication & Liaison: Engage with government agencies and stakeholders to maintain effective communication and compliance.
- Cultural Programming: Develop and present cultural programs and support services for international students.
- Compliance Authority: Serve as a Designated School Official (DSO) for F visas and potentially as an Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) for J visas, ensuring institutional compliance with immigration requirements.
Required Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s degree in international studies or a related field and three years of relevant experience in student services, or equivalent education/professional experience.
- U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent residence to fulfill the DSO requirements.
- Proven skills in problem-solving, organization, and cross-cultural communication.
Preferred Qualifications:
- A Master’s degree in international studies or a related field.
- Five years of experience as a DSO/ARO in a university setting.
- International living or working experience, SUNAPSIS knowledge, and proficiency in a foreign language.
